Believe it or not, Konami and Hideo Kojima had more than just some movie news regarding the future of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, to unveil. They’ve got a brand spankin’ new graphical engine to power the visuals of their future games, and they debuted it with a new upcoming game, demoing a title by the name of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Metal Gear Solid is going open-world with their latest title, as Hideo Kojima said that the tech and game demo on display was a “challenge from Kojima Productions to the world”. The new footage showed off clothing, texture and weather effects, amidst some lighting demonstrations, which had Snake engaged into a little bit of trademark espionage.

Snake was crawling past some spotlights in the demo, using stealth to take out an enemy, and stealing a jeep, before calling in a helicopter for an evac. The idea behind Ground Zeroes, is that it will be a game without “Game Over”. For example, while some missions would end the moment a player was discovered, GZ will keep on truckin’ tasking a player to escape and change their tactics on the fly.

Or as we like to call it, Metal Gear Solid Cell. Hi-yoooo!

“Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere… Wow,” tweeted game localizer Mark MacDonald of 8-4.

As for the game itself and the hardware required to run it, GZ was shown through a PC using current-gen equipment, and it’s being designed to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3. Konami also wants to take the new Fox Engine, and utilise it for Cloud Gaming on next-gen devices.

The session was closed to photography, but one or two pictures did escape, presumably before security at the function spotted said picture-taker and generated a massive exclamation mark above their heads.
