Let the post-Shanghai Dota 2 Drama begin

The Shanghai Major is over, thank goodness, but the drama is only really going to start unfolding in the aftermath of what was one of the worst run Dota 2 competitions in history. Don’t forget, this was a $3 million Major.

If you’ve been following the drama, as I have, you’ll be happy to know that most of the players and teams are on their way back to their respective countries and it’s now that we can expect all the juicy stories to come out about just how bad the Major actually was. Some have been reluctant to comment on the tournament (Communist China, etc) while others have not held back on social media. Grab your popcorn, this is only the beginning.

It seems once the Shanghai Major was over, Perfect World and China were in a rush to get the teams out of the hotels and eventually their country. It’s no secret now that China was not the best choice for a Major (despite having one of the biggest player bases). From the central hub of all Dota 2 Drama, Redditors once again shared some posts from players.

VP.Dramer (Russian team manager of Dota 2) had the following to say:

“Organaizers cleared out practice rooms at night without telling a single word to anybody, they just threw our personal stuff to the hall. That’s totally f***ed up!”

Not sure what the thought train was behind tossing gear out of the rooms, but it seemed a lot of gear and personal belongings went missing. Here are a few images from the practice areas.

In case you missed our article earlier, Team Secret in fact won the Shanghai Major. This is how the champions were treated.

Team Secret then had the following to say on Twitter regarding the aftermath.

“This is what all the teams have woken up to this morning. These are the practice rooms. What remains is hopefully all our gear, we had laptops in this room and a ton of other personal stuff. No heads up about this was given to the teams.

“We’re currently trying to locate a bunch of our gear. We just saved 1437’s laptop charger which was bundled into a box with 100s of cables.

“Teams are shouting at the staff here as the majority of everyone’s gear has been either packed away, lost or stolen.”

Losing car keys seems like a trivial pain in the arse, except when they’re car keys to a Maserati.

Many people have speculated that the clear out of gear and personal belongings was due to the fact the Chinese organizers were unhappy with the response of the international community regarding the Shanghai Major. Some even went as far as to jokingly add that the organizers were unhappy that no Chinese team made it through to the final stages.

Needless to say the clean up process, much like the majority of the tournament, was a complete mess. Sit back and enjoy the following weeks as the players begin to speak out on the tournament.
