Let’s not forget about the Xbox Gold sharing

One of the best announcements made at the Microsoft conference at E3 was that starting soon, still no timeline, families will be allowed to share the Xbox Gold access across members.

For me personally this is a big deal as I have a full Xbox Gold membership on my profile but there is no way Iโ€™m paying for a membership for both my kids.

But now when they play only some of the XBLA games are open to them and for others they need to log in on my account to experience the full title. This is partly from my last Xbox being stolen and licensing issues and partly because of the Gold being linked to only my profile.

sharing

They also cannot play online or voice chat unless they are logged in as me.

Microsoft has now stated that this will stop and moving forward if one member is paying for Gold then everyone on the console will be able to experience the benefits of it.

Good move Microsoft.

I for one welcome our future robotic overlords

  • Spathi

    Agreed. Well done Microsoft.

  • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

is this between your specified 10 family and friends members?

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I wonder how they’re going to check if BillyBob is really my cousin? Or if xxStealthNinjaSniperxx is really my dad?

      • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

When you register your family members on the Xbox One, you have to provide a stool and blood sample. MS will then proceed to verify that they are your family.

As for your friends, Kinect 2 will have to check your pinkie finger to see if you still have the pinkie finger bond of friendship with your friend

        • Unavengedavo

Or the Kinect will use facial recognition to determine if you share the same features as your parents… It would be awkward if it detects the mailman as your father…

          • That Tall Twit

            Bwahaha!!

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

            ROFLMAO!!!

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

OUCH!….”mommy…why is Xbox One calling the mail man father?”..poor lil Elijah

          • Happy Hamster

Wonder what will happen when you reside in Redneck County how many cousins were part of the “deed” hahahaha

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

This here is ma cousins, Slim Bob, Slimey Joe, Rolling Joe-Bob, Sue-Leigh-Jean, Happy Bob, Jimbo, Bucktooth Sam, Uncle Roland, Black Bobby, Curly-Sue, Sarah-Lynne and Slappy McCheese.

          • Happy Hamster

i have 3 daddy’s 2 mamma’s and my sister is actually ma cousin

          • Weanerdog

So in the events after a Red-Neck wedding the groom comes running out of his room. Pa! Pa! Mary-Sue is a virgin.
Pa: Well that does it Billy-Bob, if she ain’t good enough for her family she ain’t good enough for ours.

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            Lawl!.Cousins…cousins everywhere

      • Rinceyouropinion

Or if foxhound is really YOU!? 0-O

        • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Not even M Night Shyamalan could put in such a jaw-opening and dramatic twist. Most likely I’m Hammersteyn. Same writing style, same passionate desire to see PS4 succeed. Same love for funny pictures.

          • Rinceyouropinion

Hahahah! Oh, I don’t know, Shyamalan is known to be quite inconsistent. I just wonder where Foxhound is, he hasn’t been around since SONY raped MS, in the eye, with a kinetic. EDIT. I see he is back, and even after all the buzz about how SONY killed MS, is going on about how brilliant MS is. Man, what a fanboy.

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Don’t be so hard on the kid. Clearly he really likes the xbone, and to see the bone demolished at E3 must have left him scarred, deflated and saddened.

      • Weanerdog

No Jim … I am your Father

  • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

As they say, sharing is caring, but when that sharing can only be done once… someone is going to feel a little unloved… ๐Ÿ™

  • Hammersteyn

I never share my beer, people can get their own. Same principal should be applied to online accounts so that all can reap the benefits. But it’s at least some good news finally from XBOX. Good job.

  • Trevor Davies

It makes sense, why should different people who use the same console each pay to play online with that console.

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I wish they had that for the xbox 360. I never really saw the need for a family to have multiple xbox accounts. (Very greedy if you ask me)

  • Sageville

So, thats the shiney side of the polished turd.

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

      Glistening in the sunlight…. ๐Ÿ˜›

  • FoxHound R – Xbox One Day One

Weigh up the positives and xbox one is clearly the better system. The DRM doesn’t matter. Just like PC gamers got used to installs and secucorom so to will console gamers get used to disk DRM. But the positives of the xbox one thats what we should focus on. and based ont the positives the xbox one is the better system

    • Guest

      NOPE

      • Rinceyouropinion

        You rock!

    • Maverick

OMG…. You wont learn will you? Sony has teabag microsoft, PERIOD!!

      Troll!!!

      • Unavengedavo

Don’t think teabag and period should be used in the same sentence :/

    • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

Weigh up the Xbox One and you will see it’s the heavier system

      • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

        It’s MASSIVE!

        • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

          MASEEV!

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

            Eas side is da best!

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            West Side is da best!

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

            AAaaaiitt!

          • hayted

East Side is da best side! West Side is da best side! East Side is da best side! West Side is da best side! West side is da best side! East Side is the best side, oh I meant to say West Side is da best side (mumbled under breath). Love that part!

          • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

            Indeed!!

    • LordCaptainAwesomeness

      Positives?

That is like saying to a guy who has had his hands and legs amputated, that he mustn’t look at the negatives, He has lost weight, and gained access to closer parking at stores…. and so he is better off..

    • DanielNHarber

The PS4 also has family sharing, PC gamers don’t care about DRM because they get massive discounts on Steam.

  • Ultimo_Cleric N7

Well that is a postive indeed. Good move.

  • Jakster

Old news, is old. This was confirmed 3 weeks ago.

  • Jakster

Does the same apply to the new PSN+?

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Yep, it was confirmed at E3. You only need one PSN+ account and all the subaccounts on your console will work online.

      • Jakster

Good on them, sucky to have to pay for MP yet it’s free on PC. Console gamers are getting milked. Banana flavour in your case.

        • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

That’s true, I am saddened by PSN going the XBL route, but on the other hand, PS+ has stepped up, and the monthly free games (new games to boot) keeps my sub up.

  • Jakster

I’m not expecting an Xbox One hands-on from this site. Sponsored by Sony for E3, over run by 12 year old PS4ndroids.

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I hope LG does get some hands on with the xbox one, but I’m sure it’ll be an unbiased report. These guys have come a long way from merely being “gamers with a blog”. They’re now truly one of the premier gaming news sites in Africa (if not the top).

PS: Ok Gavin, you can mail me my cheque ๐Ÿ˜›

      • Skyblue

If he pays you, drinks are on you this friday

        • Double-O-Six and a half

          Banana Daiquiri anyone?

    • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

      OBJECTION!
Obviously they will have a hands-on … they have been reporting on all consoles.

      • Unavengedavo

        Hands on xbone…

    • Brady miaau

The people who run the site have their own opinions, which they are entitled to.

But they also demonstrate the ability to clearly and honestly review something, perhaps out of their comfort zone or even something they pre-judged. This is just good journalism, pure and simple.

Also Gavin stated in a previous article that if was his own money, he does not think he would buy, but that the Site is getting one for review purposes.

      • Rinceyouropinion

Agreed. There have also been many positive things mentioned by the team in regards to the Xbox One. The only gripe I have heard is in regards to the DRM and swapping of games. This is something MANY have commented on too and in the context of South Africa, SHOULD be raged against.

    • We’ve got some hands on articles coming up.

So far the guys on the ground are quite positive about the Xbox One… But remember we have to be given the opportunity before we can really review it

  • Great, someday wil enjoy this when i happen to get an Xbox One, ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Brady miaau

Yeah, am starting to feel the same way. Perhaps one will fall out of the sky for me?

  • Tbone187

Wow! I’m blown away, I need an Xboxone coz it’s so inconvenient for my family to simply use my login…sigh! This should’ve been a given from the start…Why show it off like a feature now…

  • trees

what happens when your kid steals your game, takes it to school and lets a friend borrow your game hmm?

    • Brady miaau

you speak to your kid about honesty and explain there is a different way to do these things? ๐Ÿ™‚

      Sorry, could not resist.

Yes, your point is taken. Perhaps you, as primary user or owner, must approve said person as “valid and legal entity, allowed to use this game”?
