Fallout 4 explains Luck

You know what, I really do have a love/hate relationship with these S.P.E.C.I.A.L videos Bethesda has been routinely putting out over the past few weeks. I love that we’re treated to entertaining cartoon tutorials on the core systems behind Fallout 4’s RPG mechanics, but I hate that every week essentially just reminds me that there’s still more to wait until release. That’s not really the case with Luck though, with the game on the eve of finally launching.

And how fitting to have Luck at the end too, as the single attribute that might get you out of a life and death situation just when you think all hope is lost. In the most confusing ways too.

Luck is what you expect it to be. The attribute manages things like loot drop rolls, critical strike rolls and the odd chance that you’ll get extremely lucky in conversation. It takes the randomness that is role-playing and spikes it a little in your favour, which can come in handy if you choose to take on a Deathclaw that’s just leagues out of your ability to fight. It cannot, however, always make up for stupidity.

The best part about Luck in the past was the Mysterious Stanger perk, which seems to have a place in Fallout 4 too. Once you unlock this perk you have the chance of summoning a mysterious coated stranger who deal enormous amounts of damage during a session of V.A.T.S. You can’t control when or where he comes, but in the past he’s really saved my skin on numerous occasions. He’s the real Wastelander MVP.

With Luck Bethesda finally closes out their highly entertaining series of S.P.E.C.I.A.L videos, which you can catch up in full on their channel just before the game launches. It’s now under three weeks away, with the game that nobody even knew existed at the start of this year out on November 10th. Excited yet?
