I’ve been unconvinced by Max Payne 3 – and the regular, recurrent delays haven’t quite inspired confidence. The fact that’s it being done by Rockstar Vancouver – who’ve done little of note beyond the admittedly fantastic and most certainly worthy of a sequel Bully: Canis Canem Edit – only adds to my worries.
They have, however, been allayed somewhat thanks to this new trailer showing off the game’s all-important gunplay mechanics…which look pretty fantastic. There’s a strong emphasis on realistic character animation and context-sensitive hits, bringing a few first-person aiming sensibilities to a third person shooter. That dark, gritty Noir style seems to still be missing, but there’s no denying that the crucial gunplay captures the spirit of Remedy’s originals.
Also, dual-wielding with a shotgun in one hand, and a pistol in the other? Yeah….sign me up.
Max Payne 3 is headed for consoles in May, with a PC release scheduled for June this year.
