Video game movies aren’t going away any time soon, even if less and less directors are interested in helming the big budget projects based on them. One such project that has been in development hell for years now, is Metal Gear Solid, which has been wandering in a state of quantum death for years now, with its on-again, off-again nature. But now, Konami has stated that the project is finally going to move forward again, as Solid Snake goes to Hollywood.

Announced at the Metal Gear Anniversary event in Tokyo, Konami unveiled the slogan for their “Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie” project. Columbia Pictures is attached, with Avi Arad producing it, the man who helped shepherd the original Spider-Man trilogy and various other comic book properties into cinemas over the last decade or so.

Arad then appeared on stage next to Kojima, saying that “For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters—and video games are the comics of today.”

We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed.

While it’s good news to see Arad taking an interest in the franchise, he’s also been attached to several other games that are attempting to break through to the silver screen, such as Mass Effect and Uncharted. You might notice, that none of those games have actually achieved that, yet.

Metal Gear Solid has always had the potential to be a big budget film, after all, it kick-started that style of gameplay back in the PS One days, before it overdid things in the second game, and got back on track with the third title, Snake Eater.

But development that would take the project further has always been hindered by creative issues and budget concerns. Maybe this time, we can finally eat some Snake on our big screens. SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!
