Mettlestate’s first major LAN tournament kicks off tomorrow, and eight of South Africa’s top CS:GO teams who went through the two qualifiers will battle it out for R1 million. Yesterday we talked some predictions, and I did mention that the stakes were high, and today the prize pool distribution was announced and everyone is getting paid.

  • 1st: R350 000
  • 2nd: R160 000
  • 3rd: R115 000
  • 4th: R95 000
  • 5th : R80 000
  • 6th: R80 000
  • 7th: R60 000
  • 8th: R60 000

To put that in perspective, the winning team will get about R70,000 each. The cash won’t come easy as it’s going to be a hard weekend of work for the CS:GO teams. The action kicks off tomorrow morning (May 5th) at 9:00 with the final game starting at 19:00. Here’s the schedule for Friday, May 5th.

  • 19:00 – Loser Bracket Game 2 (BO3)

Saturday, May 6th:

  • 09:30 – Winner Bracket Round 2 (BO3)
  • 11:00 – Winner Bracket Round 2 (BO3)
  • 12:30 – Lower Bracket Quarter-Final (BO3)
  • 16:00 – Lower Bracket Quarter-Final (BO3)
  • 19:00 – Lower Bracket Semi-Final (BO3)

Sunday, May 7th:

  • 09:30 – Winner Bracket Final (BO1)
  • 11:00 – Lower Bracket Final (BO3)
  • 14:30 – Grand Final

The Winner’s Bracket round one games will be best-of-one, and the Lower Bracket round one games will be best-of-three. Best-of-ones on LAN make for an exciting start to any tournament as teams who don’t pitch for their first game can find themselves with an early trip to the lower bracket. I’m expecting a few upsets here and there, but I think with what’s at hand every single team is going to bring their A-game.

Where to watch?

All games will be streamed live to Mettlestate’s Twitch Channel. Mettlestate have invited some of South Africa’s top broadcasters to headline the event, including Rob Forbes as the event host.

The Mettlestate Samsung Galaxy CS:GO tournament is the first of many major tournaments taking place in South Africa and it’s important in the sense that it will set the tone for teams and fans in South Africa as we move forward. The Mettlestate team has also worked hard to make sure this is a great tournament!

Good luck to all the teams.
