MGS 4 Already a budget title?

Now I know MGS4 was never expected to be a mass market success but hitting the bargain bins a mere month and a half after release is another thing entirely.

Kotaku is reporting that Sofmap is now selling MGS4 for 3980 Yen or US$37… or just under R300

My personal opinion is that Konami has slashed the price to make sure that they sell over a million in Japan which will secure them a spot on the all time best sellers list.

I smell dodgy business here but who’s going to complain about games becoming cheaper by the day?

Dodgy business? So when MS and Sony cut the prices of their consoles to increase sales is that “dodgy business”?

Besides, wasn’t the old platinum range simply a thing of: if it sells more than 1 million copies world wide then it becomes platinum?

Also, realistically, people who wanted MGS4 rushed out and bought it at launch. I don’t think that sales of this type of game (you either love the franchise or you don’t) will keep going without a price cut.

Absolutely, undercutting your manufacturing costs to try and get an up on your competition is against most countries competition laws.

Though lets not make to much of a noise about that 😉

Yup, dodgey business I agree. Like HD-DVD…

But how exactly do you compute “manufacturing” costs of a game? I’m sure it’s far less than $37.

    Don’t confuse the two 😛
Manufacturing costs were linked directly to the console statement.

The other was an implied point

Fair enough but i don’t think this applies to MGS4 at all as it’s already sold many millions of copies and they have made profit no doubt. Plus, this is in line with Sony’s normal “Platinum Range” practice.

Yea maybe they have already made their targets and so now want to try and apeall to a larger market. This is a game that interests me, but not enough to pick it up at R700+ new off the shelf, however if that filtered price makes it to us then il def get a copy!
