Gametrailers.com has released their review of Metal Gear Solid 4 and I can say is that it seems like they can’t make up their minds.
Throughout the review, they seem to point out a lot of the flaws in the game. While also highlighting its merits it felt to me like they had a lot of issues with it. In the end however, they land up giving the game a 9.3 out of 10. I don’t really understand what they are getting at. If the game has so many issues, give it a bad score, if it doesn’t give it a good score. In the 10 minutes that the video is running they mention a lot of problems that they found and then end it off by saying that it’s great.
I personally think this game looks fantastic, but then I started hearing about issues that they have with the controls and the story and I felt a little put off. But when the score came up it made me like the game again. A review is supposed to help me decide if the game is worth the money or not. It’s not supposed to confuse me.
It’s reviews like this that make me wonder if the review system used by almost everyone these days is flawed.

Read the IGN review, If games could make coffee this one would (according to them).
They recon even a 11/10 is not good enough for it.
Well, I’ll see for my self this afternoon. 🙂

I don’t put too much stock into reviews for exactly this reason. If it is your job to review something and you dislike it, SAY SO! Too many reviews run like advertisements.
I’m not going to give away my age, but in my day a reviewer was some spotty nosed teenage wannabe journalist who told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
They were pretty much looked down upon by the gaming producers, and treated as irrelevant.
Now it seems if you want to make it as a gaming journalist you have to appease the big boys.
It’s just wrong. ( I was going to put ‘dude’ at the end of that sentence, but thought better of it.)

The review sounds alot like the Ninga Gaiden 2 review. Also doesn’t appear that they can make up their mind.

I liked the review, and 9.3 is a LOW score for this class of game, they did mark it down for the reasons they mentioned.
MGS is unfortunatly in tricky position that all the story “problems” they mention is not really problems but also that which makes (and made) MGS games so good imo.
Giving a game like MGS4 a 8.7 for story and the lower scores in other segments is scoring it down for the things they complained about. Compare the score to other AAA titles released.
They are pretty bloody clear in their review, MGS4 is a awesome AAA title with a few minor flaws.
Yes everything they complained about is a minor flaw or not a flaw at all depending on your “taste” in MGS games

This is one of those games where reviews really doesnt matter. If youre a MGS fan, it WILL be the 2nd coming as Pillsbury said. If not, i’m pretty damn sure it will still rock a large portion of your world. The limited edition is in my posession as i speak – 5pm just cant come soon enough

It’s like Halo 3… say what you want about it… people still bought the game in numbers no matter what ❗
It would be interesting though to see the sales figures of MGS4 😉

I have to agree that GameTrailers were a little unclear in this one, I watched the trailer and still though meh.. but then I read the IGN trailer and I am now desperately trying to get a copy for me..
Serves me right for letting other people do all the reviews.. This game looks awesome..

“If you’re a MGS fan, it WILL be the 2nd coming” Too true.
I’ve just picked up my SE. Now to look at the screen and pretend to do some work until 5pm…..

Mostly SOLD out in SA at the moment… so either it is selling like a cure for cancer, or they only brought in a small batch.

I’ve got it and i’ve played about and hour and a half.
It’s pretty damn amazing, the in-game graphics are easily the best i’ve seen and the cut scenes are even better. I have not reached a boss yet but there’s no framerate dips yet and everything is intense and beautiful.
No game is a 10/10 for me and this won’t get there either but it’s better so far than anything else i’ve played on the PS3 and that includes COD4.

GameTrailers always sugarcoats their scores to avoid backlash from their retard fans. Looks like a “lowly” score of NINE POINT FUCKING THREE wasn’t enough to avoid little child wrath this time.
