Microsoft: 'Every game will work with every 360 system'

About a week ago, we posted a story about potential future Xbox 360 games that actually would require you to own an XBox 360 SKU that comes with a HDD i.e. a Pro or Elite system.

Well Microsoft have denied this….kinda. An MS spokesperson told gamepro the following when asked if future games will need a HDD:

Every game will work with every Xbox 360 system. But just like some games will require you to have a Memory Unit to save games, some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them.

Well thanks for clearing that right up :). What exactly does “experience a game” mean? It means playing a game, right? So he basically denied the rumour in the opening line and then confirmed it in the next breath.

Well we’re just gonna have to wait and see what kit is REALLY a prerequisite to have in order to play upcoming 360 titles.

I think it’s more likely that you will just have longer loading times for those games.

Personally I can’t imagine not having a HDD on my console, that was the first thing that attracted me to my original XBOX, it just doesn’t seem right to buy tons and tons of memory cards that you could possibly loose… o_O

Any newcomer to the console world will opt for this choice anyways. Amazing how they make a storm in a teacup when you actually have a choice.

I think the game will just be played on a lower Resolution or something like that.

Hungry, what does that have to do with this?

Longer loading times on bigger games are one gonna be one big pitfall of playing straight off the CD.

I’m thinking they’ll have to toss the open-ended streaming world if you don’t have the harddrive. Like every time you cross certain lines you get a loading screen. It may be more desireable than unstable framerates while waiting for a big section of the city to load. That is, if the HDD really is a neccesity.

I think what he meant was that this game is playable on the Core, but first you need to buy a HDD for your core in order to play it.
