Microsoft raising the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade?

Well here’s an odd rumour that I unfortunately feel is going to turn out to be true.

According to Gamasutra Microsoft are currently planning on increasing the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade in the UK next week by 30 GBP, or R360 or $50.

The reasons being given for this is the weak Pound to the Euro in recent times. Unfortunately since we often take our pricing queues from the UK we may be in line to see a similar increase locally.

The knock on effect of this is that we can be sure the Elites new price tag won’t be as appealing as first thought and that any further price cuts are a long way away.

On one hand I feel for Microsoft as if they keep the price lower in the UK then all the European retailers are just going to start purchasing their stock from there or complaining about the disparity in the prices. But on the other hand increasing the price of a severely gimped version of their console just feels like price gouging.

Hopefully this one turns out to be false but don’t hold your breath.

This does not mean it will effect us… the UK pound is taking a beating against the Euro and the prices have to be adjusted accordingly.
