Midway developer getting confused

Mike Bilder from Midway has been making some strange claims in an interview.

He is basically saying that all games should be made for the PS3 first and then ported down to the Xbox 360 and PC… Making the PS3 the lead platform..

So why is this a strange claim? Well because Midway are the guys who cannot seem to develop anything decent for the PS3 without whining to the media about the difficulties involved or complaining about how third party software (Unreal Engine) doesn’t work on the PS3…

Personally this looks like a sad attempt at winning some favour back with Sony.

Please note this is not an attack on the PS3 it is an attack on Midway, if they finally figure out how to get a PS3 game out on time and running well then they can start looking at the PS3 as the lead platform…

Yea, but you didnt have to put the whole midway trying to get back with Sony thing anyway.
It could have been some positive news for PS3, and it rightly should have been.

Yeah I didn’t need to post anything about it at all but since I posted about all the previous Midway problems regarding the PS3 I felt it was apt…

I am happy to admit that sometimes I struggle with the good PS3 news but this story is rubbish from Midway, they cannot complain about the PS3 for months and then declare it the lead platform. Porting from the PS3 is also not straight forward due to the different architecture.

I say they got crapped on by Sony and are trying to make up for it.

Actually I’m giggling, you didn’t pick up the bit where he said why…

It’s split up over a few questions, but the most pertinent being:
“Whereas with the PS3 and the 360, it’s certainly more of a level playing field, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a negative to put the PS3 first.”

Basically the 360 and PC can easily soak up any idiosyncrasies the PS3 architecture throws at them, whereas the PS3 can’t handle “normal generalized code”.

what i would love to know is, did Epic really drop the ball with Unreal Engine 3? Developers everywhere seem to using that as their excuse for PS3 delays.

I do know Silicon Knights are suing them at the moment and winning.. Well they won the right to keep suing them, only in America 😉

I think it’s a case of everyone having the same issues with Cell development, but it’s exacerbated for EPIC because there’s a lot of licensees.
