NAG loses some key staff

NAG loses a major player I heard this little rumour from a friend the other day but was sworn to secrecy. However now that it has been published I am allowed to talk…

In what is honestly quite a suprise from my side it has been announced that James Francis is leaving NAG after many many years of loyal service and so is the hardware writer Toby Hudson.

No reasons have yet been given for the sudden departures but if James answers the email I will let you know… (Toby is going back to the USA)

I know a lot of people have ill feelings towards NAG but you have to admit they have done more for local gaming than any other publication and for that we must thank them. My one pearl of wisdom for them though… stop insulting your readers, seriously we don’t like it or find it amusing.

This months edition is actually going to be celebrating 10 years of gaming goodness. The magazine is apparently packaged in a tin and inside we are going to be treated to a whole pile of specials and freebies….

10 years of NAG

I stopped buying this mag. Infact I hate this mag.
Id rather listen to a Rob Mugabe speech than read this.
My reason.. they are arrogant and are always…always insulting the readers.

Yes sure they have done something’s for SA gaming , but have done just as much harm.
In my opinion the 3 console forums ( http://www.ps3za.co.za/ http://www.wiiza.co.za/forum/index.php http://www.xbox-360.co.za/forum have done more, way more.

Nag should not be surprised if they close their doors for good one of these days. More and more gamers are opting to use the net or rather buy a import mag than read how arrogant game reviewers poke fun at them and put them down.

It is not in a tin but a thin cardboard cover and the magazine is completely white.

The only freebie that I saw is a R50.00 voucher from Incredible.

Regarding the matter of insulting their readers I too think it is in bad taste. If they are trying to sound witty as in PC Format’s Ask Luis section they are failing horribly.

Overall I enjoy the mag as I read it in the smallest room in my house.

When will it hit the stores? The R50 IC Voucher means i can now buy a game at IC for the same price as at other retailers.

NAG should be available today. Check with your nearest book seller. And my advice to the buyers of magazines would be to purchase it at Incredible Books and ask for a Fanatics Card. You get points every time you purchase anything or go to a Nu Metro Cinema. They also have double points days 😀

Can we use the R50 NAG Incredible voucher to buy a PC Format? 😉

Print format magazines have to realise their function has changed. They can’t compete with the internet for timely reviews or technical review skills – half the time end up sounded stupid when their reviews don’t match international norms.

They need to find special interest niche’s like focusing on locals and unique content.

To be honest I find NAG an awesome publication best in the country with Play the Zone very close 2nd. Indeed a change of attituude is needed but a little birdy told me this will be in the pipeline !! So check out the next few issues and see if this will indeed be the case.

I stopped funding NAG since their biggest idiot is still there. I have more ways in using R50 like on a monthly XBLA sub which more worthwile of an investment.

Can anyone here please pull out a quote from the last two years (excluding the Letters page) where NAG insulted its readers? You know, something that reflects how arrogant the magazine was to readers?

I think it’s the letters page that most people get irate about.

The rest of the mag is perfectly profesionnal and my personal opinion is that the letters page is where it lets itself down.
