New Beyond Good and Evil 2 video shows how crews will work

Beyond good and evil sky

I was over the moon when Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced at E3 this year. I mean, literally on the verge of tears I was so happy. The trailer looked incredible, and everything we could tell about the game showed that it was really intriguing and unique. Fans have waited so long for a new installment in that universe, and we were all just so happy to see that it really is happening. Without a doubt, Ubisoft “won” E3 for me with that one.

Of course, it’s not enough to just announce a highly anticipated game. You have to deliver a truly wonderful experience to the fans. Now, I’m relaxed about timelines at this point. I know that it’s still several years before I see a Beyond Good and Evil 2 game on my platform of choice. But I’m getting worried that developers might already be overselling what the game will offer.

Here is a new video put together by the UbiBlog team, showcasing how players will get a crew together and what it will mean for the story and gameplay.

Okay, so let me get this straight. You can create your character as anything, including a cool hybrid. Then you can go on missions on other worlds and recruit other characters to your crew, but you have to behave in a way that they like or you might not get to keep them. Much like Mass Effect, you will get to learn these characters’ stories and go on missions with them. Then, you will need to allocate them correctly to various space crafts (which can leave planet atmospheres and travel the galaxy) to optimise your vehicles. And all of this is just the beginning.

Look, maybe I’ve just been burned in the past. Maybe I’m too sceptical. All of that sounds amazing if they can pull it off. But with such an in-depth scope for just one aspect of the game, it makes sense why Michel Ancel said the game wasn’t possible until now. I’m honestly not even sure if it’s possible yet.

I just hope that in the coming years, Beyond Good and Evil 2 follows a healthy development cycle and can actually deliver on these promises and ideas. I wouldn’t be able to bear it if this long awaited game fell afoul of the same over-hype and over-promising that the No Man’s Sky team did. I hear that game is way better now, by the way, but it’s too late for most – it’s a permanent example of a game not living up to the incredible hype and promises of game expo reveals.
