No more PS3 price cuts planned

A Sony Vice President has been talking to next-gen.biz about the financial future of the PS3 and he says they are aiming to break even on the PS3 hardware by March 2008.

To do this they are hoping for an optical uptake to cut costs on the Blu-Ray drive and then, as Microsoft are also doing, they are planning on moving from 90nm chips to 65nm chips.

However what this does mean is that we should not expect any other PS3 price cuts in the near future. Seeing that the last PS3 price cut was more of a clearance sale than I guess you could say we are still waiting on a PS3 price cut.

There are strong rumours of a $50 price cut next week for the 360 which will really force Sony’s hand… so watch this space 🙂

[Update] This seems to have been confirmed by Sony Japan
