There’s no two ways around this fact: Aliens Colonial Marines is an absolute stinker. A massive lie on a disc, the game has been getting less than favourable reviews, thanks to it’s ugly textures, broken AI and numerous glitches. In all honesty, these should have been the components that Gearbox should have fixed before launch in the five year window that they had to work on the game. Instead, it’s up to PC modders to do their job for them.
Thanks to some passionate fans, Aliens: CM Punk is now actually a tad bit more playable. Modders have begun work on the PC version of the game, bringing the visuals up to the quality that they were promised by Gearbox according to CVG. It’s purely aesthetical updates right now, but it won’t be long before the modders get to work on the AI at this rate.
You can check it out for yourself right now on the Steam forums if you reckon you have the skill to make a game that you paid several hundred Rands for, look better. I’m kind of glad that I cancelled my preorder on this game. By the sounds of things, and the fact that Geoff burnt all his clothes and is rocking away in a cold shower, it looks like I missed several hundred rounds of pure awful gameplay and visuals.
Why, it’s as if these developers have no scruples whatsoever these days! Tsk.

Agreed I saw the first attempt at the port, and after gnawing my own elbow off, which takes a considerable amount of effort, I was pleased with what the modders were able to do.

It’ll happen eventually, though, we have to understand that Microsoft and Sony aren’t going to allow people to simply do what they want. There will likely be a vetting process. But, it’s a direction the consoles HAVE to go. Developers should be pushing MS and Sony to do this, so that when they create something awful, they can still gain revenue when their asses are saved by modders.

A sad day when your clients fix your product for you.

I propose a globally applicable law which states that once modders have improved 25% of your IP, you no longer deserve ownership and your IP becomes freeware.

I couldn’t agree more.

The problem with that would be where would one draw the line? Where would one say “Ok that’s roughly 25% better” ?
What about games like Skyrim that encourage constant change and updating?
I simply just think that the idea must be taken and if they lie to the public about what they are making and what features it will have, then the IP should become freeware

I’ll take it one-step further, when modder’s have improved your IP that much, you owe them a chunk of your profit.

I was really hoping gearbox would pull something epic off with this. Build a franchise like they have with Borderlands, but in the end FAIL.

Bastards! RAGE AGAINST THE GEARBOX! This has scared me for life, and yes, this kitten was hurt in the writing of this rage. All I can say is thank fuck for the Master race. Due to the skills they have acquired from hacking games like MoH and CoD they are able to turn a regular shit fest from something de Sade would wallow in into something less teasingly god damn SHIT!

I was worried at the repetition of shit, but the rage was strong at that time…

Sticking to Borderlands 2 for now. Also, thats why I switched to PC. You get most of the games, and when they do come out, the modders improve them in many ways.

I did the visual mods a few days ago. Looks a lot better and plays well in that sense. Can’t wait for the other “patches”
