People spend how much time playing FIFA?

EA

Possibly to obfuscate their poor financial results, EA’s released this handy-dandy infographic showing just how much time people are spending playing its games. Between October and December, people have spent a frankly ludicrous collective 18 billion minutes kicking a faux football around in FIFA. Here are more mind-boggling numbers.

EA says that in the same time, just 11,340 minutes of actual premier league football has taken place.

Battlefield 4 players have spent over 8 million hours in the air since the game was released in October. In that time, 90,000 very real pilot’s licenses could have been earned. People have driven over 51 million kilometres on Need for Speed Rivals’ roads, which is the equivalent of 4000 trips on the entire autobahn, apparently.

When it comes to the company’s mobile and free to play offerings, the numbers become even more unbelievable, with Simpsons Tapped Out  sucking in nearly 20 million players, Real Racing 3 kicking asphalt by clocking up 1.3 billion races in three months, and a record number of bored people racing on Christmas day.

In the free-to-play, charmless Plants vs Zombies sequel, 53.4 billion plants were planted to destroy zombies, which EA says is enough to cover New York’s land surface 3 and a half times. That is a lot of videogames being played.

Here’s the infographic, for your eyeballing pleasure.

I did not contribute to one of those. Pretty damn fascinating though.

Haha. Same here. And this Origin that they speak of. I’ve sworn I’ve heard of it before, but I tend to block terrible memories from my mind.

          Snot is anything but monotonous.

Sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s gooey, sometimes it’s liquid.

You can pick it, roll it and flick it.

          S’not monotonous

Dunno how people manage that in BF4: I can pilot a chopper reasonably well, but those AA guns will take you down plenty quick. A few minutes of sheer mayhem is all I can manage…

I don’t “buy” it every year, but have borrowed / won / bought since FIFA09, and not spent too much cash.

I think FIFA 14 was the only one I bought at full price, and that was after trading and only paying in R100.

Hi my name is Jonah and I am an addict…..
I buy Fifa every year since about 2004/5!!!!! I do trade in the old one about 2 weeks before the new one comes out and that saves me about R150 to R200 on the new one…..

Isn’t it just the same game over and over or are the differences really worth buying a new one. Sorry I didn’t mean to be mean I just feel like EA is cashing on yearly titles.

Because I really play it a lot I can tell you that every year has been different, and you would think that player movement and ball physics doesn’t mean it is like a new game, but for us hard core players it really is…. The smallest change in player AI makes a huge difference!! That is why I was loosing it this year, because Fifa 13 was a broken ass game when it came out, and the first patch helped but didn’t fix everything… Now on PS4 Fifa is brilliant, the ball isn’t going through players, there is no more free headers, your teams defensive line is way more alert to dangerous runs… The PS3 and PS4 versions are not comparable not even to say Fifa 13 to Fifa 14…
The differences will be small to the casual guy who plays with friends but to us hard core idiots every year really is different… I got burnt by Fifa 14 and don’t think I will buy Fifa 15 as a pre order again, because EA is releasing broken games now…
But what I found sad is that the game got great reviews but it was complete and utter crap!! I found only 1 guy at gamespot in an article who criticized the game, not the reviewer though he went with the rest of the sheep and gave the game and 8 or more!!!

I contributed quite a bit to FIFA14 at release, I have since curbed my enthusiasm a bit to concentrate on other games. Got GTAV as a present, so that gets priority now 😀

I can just see it now…

**huddled inside a cubicle, surrounded by McDonald’s cartons**

“So 10,000 people bought our game. They each played for 60 minutes… Carry the 4… Equals 18 billion minutes played! Good grief, we’re magnificent!”
