Spelunky is one of those games which has proven to be rather popular on the Xbox Live Arcade scene. Personally, I’m not crazy for it, although the quirky charm and visuals of the title has touched my heart. Or whatever the hell is in my chest right now. It’s not a cheap game though, costing 1200 MS Points at the moment. If only a free version was available, to help me procrastinate even more than usual. Wait, there is?
Yessiree, you can grab a taste of free Spelunky, right now, and plunge your workload from “manageable” to “AAAH S&$t!”. There is a catch though. The free version online, is the one that developer Derek Yu came up with originally, before he redesigned the title into the smoothly animated platformer that it is today.
Developer Darious Kazemi took the original version of Spelunky through HTML 5 and some new Game Maker software, resulting in a port that isn’t complete, but is still fun to play. So if you don’t mind a lighter version of the game that has no saves, randomness or sound, then hey, you just scored yourself a free game.
