As the title suggests, there is a new update available for the Playstation 3 that can be downloaded right now via the Playstation Network.
It looks like there are no major additions with this new update, so don’t expect anything major when you download it. Sony has however not released official details on the update yet, so if any new little bits and pieces have been added that haven’t yet been noticed, we should hear about them soon enough.

So does this one brick 60GB systems as well? Gonna wait on this one… let others test it first.

hmmmm… why update the PS3 so frequently if its nothing spectacular? Just release the damn in game cross chat for the fans allready… thats what I say

Sony have a perfectly good reason to release updates so often. Its to plug potential holes in the firmware which can lead to the PS3 being hacked. The new firmware stops the Open Remote Play ‘hack’ which was released…
If they catch these early then everyone will update and thus no one will be able to use that flaw anymore. It makes perfect business sense after you see what piracy has done to the PSP (besides increase hardware sales)

I dont see the justice that every firmare update being as big as it is, just to eliminate emulators and other home brew applications.
And besides….
I doubt anybody is gonna hack the PS3 anytime soon. And if i had a PS3 the chances are slimmer as my bank account that, i would of modded it anyways.

Anybody recalls Sony’s rootkits from their music CDs? Sony is such a prick at anti-piracy that they stuff up legit users with their updates. Same on the PS3, 145MB odd of your cap almost every 2 weeks for some “playback” update? Like others said earlier, give us REAL changes not cosmetic bull.

These updates aren’t patches. For very good reasons the firmware is a complete build rather than something which can possibly cause more problems.
Remember its only us in south africa that complain because of the BW. In other countries this would like 20mins and really wouldn’t be a big deal

Just go check the Eurogamer.net thread on the 2.8 update. Guys with nice lines in the EU complain about the same 20 minutes you said are for granted. LoL. I suppose folks find anything to moan about nowadays?

Oddly, most games are 8-12 gig… not near the 20 gig mark…
Anyways, 4mb unshaped ftw.

Must be multiplatform titles. Just shows how much difference the BD makes for a game… NOT!

after update the 2.8, the following problem I found with my PS3.
– unable to quit any game. It went straight into black screen after pressing PS button. After effect, unable to detect blu ray system. Need to eject the disk and reinsert in order to play the game.
– UNABLE TO PLAY ALL BLU RAY and DVD MOVIE!!!! THAT IS THE WORSE THING EVER….
Help!!!
