Pokemon X and Y–More mega-evolutions and banking detailed

Pokemon X and Y just dropped two big bombshells this afternoon. More details after the jump.

Players can transfer Pokémon they have captured in Pokémon Black and White, and Pokémon Black and White 2 to Pokémon X & Y using the game’s Poke Transporter feature. Your creatures are then stored in your Pokémon Bank and can be searched and filtered to find the ones you want.

The first bit of news here is Pokémon bank.. It’ll allow players to transfer Pokémon between Black, White, Black 2 and White 2 with X and Y. It’s essentially allowing players to put their Pokémon into the magical cloud, and sort and find them wherever you are. All thanks to the more robust wi-fi features of the 3DS.

But there’s a catch.

Because of all the work that has gone into creating software that will be used for years to come, there’s going to be an annual fee. No details yet on how much you’ll be paying, but you’ll pay nonetheless.

Masuda then confirmed that not only will you get a starter Pokémon from a friend first, but the professor in your town will give you a starter Pokémon from the original generation games. And Charmander, Squirtle and Venusaur will all have mega-evolutions that will need to be unlocked during your journey.

 

Masuda also spoke about how these forms, were the sum total of his work on the Pokémon franchise. All his feelings, time and energy spent collecting Pokémon, something that players shared around the world, could be expressed in this power-up form.

Getting physical, the special edition 3DS XL for Pokémon X and Y will no longer be a Japan exclusive. It’ll be heading to the west as well.
