Project CARS, a Community Assisted Racing Simulator, has recently shown off some lovely new screenshots and trailers of the pre-alpha release for your delectation. The game was recently shown at CES in 4K resolution, showing off the visual prowess of the game. The demo certainly is impressive and really shows the brilliance of 4K gaming.

What the demo doesn’t show is the most important thing; how the game feels. I’ve had a go with Project CARS and as a fan of Gran Turismo I can confirm that it’s a similar simulation to a semi-racing sim like GT or Forza. I wouldn’t put it in the same category as hardcore simulators like Live For Speed and iRacing despite it having advanced simulations like dynamic tyre modelling and TrackIR for head tracking. The difference is that it’s more forgiving than most sims and is defined better visually so it may appeal to a bigger crowd. That being said, it’s early in development and things may change, it’s certainly not leaning anywhere near an arcade experience. The screenshots below definitely show the amount of detail possible in the Madness engine, which is the same engine used in Need For Speed Shift series, but I would imagine it would be heavily modified. Project CARS has big shoes to fill as a new racing IP considering its formidable competition, but this is a really good start.Project CARS is set to release on PC, Linux,SteamOS, Wii U,PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Q3 or Q4 of 2014.
