Quantum of Solace – first look at gameplay

Gamer. Lazy Gamer.

So, Activision have released the first gameplay video from the upcoming Bond tie-in game set to release alongside the new film in November. Entitled Quantum of Solace, it actually ties in with the first film of the Craig era as well, with the game containing numerous levels based on Casino Royale. Notably, the exciting parkour chase sequence through the construction site at the beginning of the film will be included.

That said, the video looks kind of disappointing to me – characters look like plastic figurines, and the animation for Bond shooting looks pretty wooden – completely unlike Gears, Rainbow Six Vegas, or even the recently released The Bourne Conspiracy, all of which feature a cover system. Finally, it’s kind of a letdown to see a next-gen game without any facial animation whatsoever. Maybe they can sort out all these issues before launching, since I would love a decent Bond game. The last good one was GoldenEye on the N64, way back in the halcyon days of the ’90s.

Methinks they have some polishing to do.

I disagree. It seems to be making good use of the COD4 engine and the addition of the combat and melee moves are very applicable to the Bond universe. It’s going to feel like you’re playing COD, except set in the Bond world. I don’t think you can go wrong there. And personally, I think the graphics look fantastic.

Will it dethrone GoldeneEye as the best Bond game of all time? Likely not, but I don’t think any 007 game ever will. But it’s definitely going to be better than the EA Bond FPS games. 🙂
