Ratchet & Clank: SA Bandwidth Beware!

PS3 fans that are looking forward to the release of Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty are going to be hurt (in the pocket) to hear that the game download will be weighing in at a very hefty 3.2GB.

That’s quite a lot for us poor South Africans. I’m not sure how much the game will be selling for directly in Rands, but converted from the UK price of 10 Pounds means that the game should go for only about R145.00. Add the local pricing for 3 gigabytes of bandwidth though and the price goes up significantly.

It’s a real shame that South Africans have to suffer again because of the high local prices for bandwidth but there is no way around it so although the game is looking really fantastic I would suggest that you hang back and make sure that the download will be worth your while before making the purchase and downloading the game.

  1. There is a Blu-ray version of the game that will be released in Europe for the same price, but whether or not that includes us is another story.

P.S: I thought is was 2.3GB? Or was that for the US version?

It was originally thought to be 2.3GB but it was later found to be 3.2gb instead

For me it’s a R100 per gig (unshaped) so that bumps it up R300. Plus R4500 because I need a PS3 as well. 🙂

I don’t think it’s that bad, considering that you get 1GB for R70 at webafrica, it works out to about R370 for a game. That’s almost half the price of a game you buy in retail stores.

I just use my capped I.S account. For some reason even when my I.S account is capped, I can download at full speed on my PS3, I just can’t login to the PSN, so I login and queue downloads with my Telkom account and then switch to my I.S account when it’s capped to let it continue the downloads at 425k/s 😉 . If anyone else has both accounts, try it.

Interesting, I wonder if the DLC is being cached or mirrored locally by IS?

I’ve noticed something simular with axxess. Although I checked it a long time ago. I remember downloading a demo long ago on my PS3. It was just over a gig. Was connected to axxess, bought 2GB and started downloading till complete. A couple of days later I checked my axxess account and hey ho, I still had the fresh 2GB left.

Yep… My I.S account was capped around 10 days ago and I’m currently downloading this at full speed… +-400kb/s… Got to love it. 😉 Why waste my lovely fast SAIX/Telkom bandwidth 😉
