Really now, what is going on at Midway?

News coming out of America this morning is that we are not going to be seeing a bidding war for Midways assets as they only received a single bid of $33 million from Warner Interactive.

So we can assume that, barring some unexpected issues, Midway will be fully owned by Warner Interactive in the very near future. What I can’t understand though is that Midway’s San Diego Studio, Newcastle (UK) Studio and TNA franchise are not included in the deal.

Which begs the question, what is Warner buying for $33 million? It can’t be the brand name which has been dragged through the mud over the past few months and I would be surprised to learn that the Mortal Kombat and Wheelman franchises are worth that.

The only winner in this sordid affair would be Mark Thomas who swooped in picked up the company on the cheap, watched it run into the ground and then walked off with a huge payout…
