We all knew that some of the caped crusaders extended vigilante family was going to make an appearance in the sequel to the absolutely fantastic Arkham Asylum, but what we didn’t know was what kind of character changes we would be presented with in Rocksteady’s vision of Gotham City. Now the studio has commented on creating a more contemporary boy wonder for their upcoming title.

On the Arkham City website, senior concept artist  Kan Muftic has described Robin as “introverted” and “dangerous if provoked”.

“We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional boy wonder image that most people know. Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked.”

"The shaved head is inspired by cage fighters, because we thought that Robin might be doing that in his spare time to keep him on his toes.Still, we kept all the classic trademarks of Robin’s appearance, such as the red and yellow colours of his outfit, the cape and the mask. We really hope that people will discover our Robin as one of their new favourite characters in the Batman universe. He is back and he means business."

Robin will be playable in challenge maps for the game, provided that he is purchased in the US at certain participating stores, while the rest of us will most likely have to wait for a Game of the year edition before we can finally play as him.

While its an interesting idea to shift his personality this way, lets just hope that Rocksteady doesn’t go too far and give fans an emo Robin who writes dark poetry while punching thugs in the face.
