RROD at GDC

24 second read

Now this is sad, one of Microsoft’s demo Xbox 360 consoles at the game developers conference has suffered the dreaded red ring of death.

You would honestly think that after all this time they would have resolved this issue, but apparently not. This does however lend more credibility to the rumour  of Microsoft announcing a new SKU at GDC this year.

Maybe one that doesn’t RROD so much?

Conference room floors aren’t great places for consoles to live, that’s all there is to it.

Before the Sony fanboys get there panties in a knot about this, RROD can also result from something as mundane as a loose AV connector.

Unfortunately this might not or might be the cause here.

So If I were to get a xbox it could spaz out just by having a loose connection?!?!?!?!

What’s more worrying is that MS let it be noticed. You would think with all the news about the RROD they would monitor those consoles on a minute to minute basis and quickly swap it out.

@Abe, no he means that the red lights is a way for the 360 to inform you of errors. If you don’t have the video cable plugged in properly you also get the red ring but it flashes differently. However I think this video is the RROD

Three re lights is only for RROD… another one bites the dust 🙁

Look at that poor console caged in that transparent cage. Ain’t there console rights groups to prevent consoles from being caged?

I remember at E3 2006 the PS3 had a dismal showing due to heat issues on the show floor. That eventually lead to the Cell CPU being dropped from 3.2ghz to 2.6ghz.

Yes, but after almost 2 years of 360s dying in glass cases you’d think they’d have thought of a clever way to keep it cool at such an important conference. More holes in the glass, an extra fan, just something to save face before the 65nm CPU + 65nm GPU version comes out.

ah… the lil monster makes his return… it like the tokoloshe is raping random xbox 360’s. and the red ring of death is simple to explain, the xbox 360 is male (take a guess how the tokoloshe rapes the xbox 360) LOL

    That was Windows 98

The RROD is defintely a pain for the 360 but you PS3 supporters are acting like Sony is a little inocent angel. Let me know how 4d works out for you guys. Also let me know if it was worth it to work longer hours in the week because the PS3 made you want to do that(thanks Ken). What about the HDMI cable out of the box? Downgrading the visuals to 480p on older HD-TV’s that only supprots 1080i. Controler battery life is the worst of all 3 next gen consoles. If battery of controler malfunctions, must get new controler instead of replacing batery. You guys are probably not waiting for rumble since it is LAST GEN TECHNOLOGY! Killzone trailer. The list goes on….

The RROD is bad but you PS3 fans need to come back to reality.

Have a look on the local ps3 forum at how many PS3’s have broken lasers, won’t read discs etc. Considering the size of the forum user base (small) the fault rate is high. The Sony is no master stroke.
Oh, there is not auto off for the sick axis controller either. If you have to get up to do something it’ll just run itself down. I can’t believe a s/w revision hasn’t sorted that out yet.

Burns now you just causing kuk, there have been about three laser mulfunctions out of just shy of a 1000 members, thats pretty damn decent dude, other problems have been HDD related and even then the number is def under ten, these figure hardly touch the scope of RROD!

I know the PS3 is a great machine, I might get one myself since HD-DVD have bitten the dust but I’m pointing out here that the PS3 also has its problems. By having a quick glance at evilredzombies blog I realize that he will never play great games like Gears of War or Bioshock. His irrational hate for Microsoft is getting to a point where he is shooting himself in the foot.

Like ex smokers who have given up, ex 360 owners always scream the loudest from the rooftops. It’s understandable, when you can only look on from the sidelines and see how much you are missing, it makes it worse if you’ve tasted it. We all have areas in life where we need to justify our decisions to others – even if they are wrong.

I thing reading any forum will give you a skewed perception of the failure rate of any device. People are more likely to post about the troubles they are having then the “bliss” they are having. When last did you see a thread entitled “Just turned on my PS3, still works”.

hey guys, I just turned on my ps3. Now, I was pretty amazed. I looked at the back, it wasn’t burning or overheating. i was like, ok, awesome! any way, I heard the opening symphony which meant the ps3 had just opened up. I looked and looked and looked! I And to my amazement i discovered that it was working as always. I was working 100%…

Now, the remote aint much to look at, but hell, at least it comes with a console that works!
Ok now I’m truly amazed. So, how can xbox fanboi’s get all defensive, when they go through the above routine?

But, why am i talking? I mean, there seems to be most of the guys on the ps3 forum that are complaining about there ps3 going bust.

As silly as this post is, It does offer some insight into the minds of the fanboi’s… just read the above posts and realise that the post are just BS… so what if Mircosoft has a dodge unit on the display floor? I’m pretty sure it was bound to happen. Yes the xbox 360 has it’s short comings. but so fucking what? thats like a blind kid telling a def kid he’s a retard, and then he walks into a wall… and while the def kid laughs, he can’t here the people saying get out the way of the train you retard!

There’s no sense in it all… but at least i have Sony 😛

These debates go on and on. PS3 is better. 360 is better. Let 2008 role out and then we spot some concrete results. Yes we have to wait another full year because the PS3 came late to the party… that was already well underway. Come to think of it, the Wii was also released late but it rocked the 360 and PS3.

Hey Lazy. It says on your banner XBox360, Playstation3, Wii and PC-DVD ROM. How about some news on the Wii and PC for a change.

I have finally been given a huge pile of press releases from Nintendo so hopefully I can start getting some more news from there and the PC market is so huge I struggle to keep track of the important pieces…

If anyone is willing to lend a hand it would be appreciated but I am trying to include that side some more. Nintendo just seem to prefer to hide in the corner and make all the money

Of course I want one, its a great console. I’m not going to let a couple of negative points make me hate Sony and everything it stands for and in the process deprive myself of great games like Uncharted.

    @Abe
“ps3 owners claim there machine is better, but the xbox owners only try to think im reasons why it isnt, instead of reasons why the box is better”
Thats a perfect example of the world through fanboy goggles. You have never heard of someone saying the Xbox360 is better? Reasons why Xbox360 is better:
    1. Cheaper price
    2. Better On-line
    3. Larger games library
    4. Ports are better
    5. Rumble
    6. Backwards compatibility (40gb PS3 model?)
    7. Integrated friends list
    8. Gets lots of PC ports
    9. ect.

There are just as many points favoring the PS3 as well, it’s just that abe can’t see the above Xbox360 points through his fanboy goggles.
