Rumour : Microsoft Contemplating Non-Gaming Achievements?

Microsoft recently sent out an achievement related survey, looking for a bit of gamer’s insight. One of the questions stood out as being particularly interesting :

Providing Achievements for non-gaming uses of your Xbox 360 (e.g., “The Film Buff: You’ve watched 50 DVD’s”)

Achievements have no doubt worked well for Microsoft; while I have little interest in the digital bragging rights, many gamers go out of their way to acquire them- lured by and addicted to the sound and euphoria that accompany them. Some even buy notoriously bad games just to get their achievements.

Are Microsoft looking to add a little addiction to the rest of your digital life?

My xbox battles to read discs… the other day the entire screen went white with black writing in all different languages instructing me that in order to use the disc… I should “put it in an xbox 360”?!?

So… that’s gotta be an achievement right, I get the “xbox not an xbox” acheivement! yay!

“Booted console 365 times without RROD”, that would be worth 1 gazillion points!

The Achievement’s title was meant to be “a good year” but it wouldn’t fit 🙁

They should introduce achievements that reduce gamerscore for those people who kill teammates and generally disrupt gameplay…
Achievement unlocked: -50 points for being a fool!
