You could reasonably argue that there’s not much out for the new consoles right now, which is really rather quite typical of a new generation of consoles. It makes jumping, given the price, a little harder. that’s not helped at all by the fact that so many “new gen” games are being delayed. Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy-branded online multiplayer shooter The Division might be one of them.
We say might be because the source of the rumour is a Swedish interview with an unnamed inside source, over at Gamereactor – so its veracity is tricky to ascertain, and could well just be a load of rubbish.
According to the source, the game is in development, but it still has quite some work to go. It’s unlikely to see a 2014 release at all.
“The game engine works well, it is not clear but works well. Actual game development has barely begun, however. The fact that Ubisoft issued a 2014 release date seems laughable if I’ll be completely honest, we will never have time to release The Division this year. This is a big project, we have very far to go …(via VG247)”
It wouldn’t be particularly surprising if it were true; Ubisoft’s delayed both open-world hacker Watch Dogs and open world racer The Crew. the company’s also started Rainbow Six: Patriots from scratch.
Post-apocalyptic tactical online shooter The Division was easily one of the more impressive games to be announced at E3 last year, and like Watch dogs, its delay would leave a large gaping hole in the new consoles’ library this year. Ubisoft’s most recently showcased The Division – or its Snowdrop engine at least – at the VGX awards in December.
Ubisoft, like everyone else, doesn’t comment on rumour or speculation.

Talk about let down.. sheesh next gen games seeing quite the delays. I assume they are still learning the tech or simply need more time for their games.

After those gameplay vid’s I don’t mind the wait either. Looking forward to this game more than any other in the next couple years or so with perhaps the exception of Star Citizen.
