Starbreeze’s 2007 story-oriented FPS “The Darkness†was one of the year’s most underappreciated gems. Eclipsed by bigger shooters such as Call of Duty 4, Bioshock and Crysis, The Darkness brought Top Cow’s cult comic book to life. A flawed masterpiece, it contains what is still one of the most emotionally impactive scenes I’ve encountered in interactive fiction. Besides, Any game featuring Faith No More’s Mike Patton is a winner as far as I’m concerned.
Good news for fans is that Top Cow have confirmed that a sequel to the game is currently in development. Bad News? Original developers Starbreeze have confirmed that they will not be helming the project. According to Starbreeze’s CEO Johan Kristiansson : “I heard that there were talks about a Darkness sequel, but Starbreeze is not involved in anything like that right now. We are busy on two projects together with EA,†he said.
Hopefully the as yet unnamed studio behind the sequel is up to the task.
