After a late start to 2017, Orena’s big announcement was their R1.7 million Orena Championship Series. The series invites 16 teams to the week long LAN Final after a 14-week Online Double Round Robin to decided seedings. 16 Teams will receive direct invites (8 Dota 2, 8 CS:GO), but the others have a chance of grabbing the final two spots through the online Premier Division which kicks off on June 5th.
The registrations for the online qualifier leg are open to all teams, and you’re not only competing for a spot at the LAN final, but also a R50,000 prize pool for the online season, as explained in their initial announcement.
“The OCS Premier Division will be open to all teams (except the 16 Champion Division Teams) and will run from 5 June – 17 September. The division will be run via the Orena ladder system on www.orena.com and will feature a R50 000 prize pool for CS:GO and DOTA2 respectively, shared between the teams finishing from 1st to 3rd place. The top 2 placing teams in the OCS Premier Division will also gain a playoff spot in which they will play against the bottom two teams from the OCS Champions Division after the season ends, at the Nu Metro Arena at Emperors Palace in late October and early November. If the qualifying OCS Premier Division teams manage to beat the bottom two OCS Champions Division teams in the playoff, they win the defeated teams’ places in the OCS Champions Division for the 2018 season. Registration for the OCS Premier Division competition is also available via champions.orena.com.”
The OCS will have a strict broadcast schedule bringing you bi-weekly broadcasts of the top matches in both CS:GO and Dota 2. Registrations are open and easy, and leave a space for up and coming teams to compete and grow as they look to contend at the LAN Finals which will be taking place in September. The Dota 2 competition will run from the 21st to the 24th, with the CS:GO one taking place the week after from the 28th to the 1st of October. This new LAN format ensures ample space and time for both tournaments to be broadcast, along with a venue offering space for spectators who wish to attend the LAN Finals.
Two weeks remain until the start of the first season, so be sure to sign up if you haven’t already.
