Silent Hills TGS trailer isn’t for faint hearted

Fear itself

Admit it, you don’t really like the pants you’re wearing today. You don’t mind needing to change them after watching this video. Because really, this trailer will scare the bejeezus out of anyone. Prepare for fear.

Random decapitated head with centipedes? Or what about those toys and the giant child-eating monster? This entire trailer is just a whole bunch of nope for me – I don’t think I’ll be able to play this game at all. I will just curl up in the fetal position and hope for the best.

It makes me so happy to see the horror genre returning in a big way again. Resident Evil 2 is still one of my all-time best gaming experiences. It’s fun to be afraid in games; it’s good training for when we encounter real life horrors. Although if I ever have to encounter something like what’s in this game, I think I’ll just run away and hide, even though I know that tactic never works.

Directed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, I’m seriously excited to see what Silent Hills has in store. I’m sure it will be beyond terrifying considering those two mens’ imaginations. There is rumour that it might be coming out episodically. While that normally seems like a silly thing to jump on the Telltale bandwagon, I really like this idea – I don’t think I can handle too much horror in one sitting.

Do you enjoy playing horror games? Do you scream like a little girl, or do your eyes just bug out while you scream inside your own head?

I loved playing Haunting Ground although I’m not really on for horror games. It’s the same as with movies, I struggle to immerse myself in the genre because my mind keeps telling me its fake. I’m sure that’s a coping mechanism though.

My mind also says it is fake but it rarely wins…. I can’t do horror anything!! Resident evil 2 and that clown called IT didn’t really help me with my fear issues though!! Oh and Zoltan, that dog made me run from our own dogs for months!!

Fake like any movie, yet when I watch say the Grudge (Japanese version) it doesn’t matter what my mind tells me.

But that’s why I think it’s a coping mechanism, I can fully immerse in other games and enjoy the odd movie, but with horror it just don’t work.

Wow when last did I hear that name. I still preferred Clock Tower 3, but Haunting Ground was good, just that dog AI though 🙁

I actually liked the dog AI, the fact that he sometimes didn’t want to listen to your commands made it more “real” for me. The problem for me was that the storyline was a bit thin but I really did enjoy playing the game.

Haha, true, dogs don’t always obey, it was just frustrating though when you really needed him. Yeah the story was thin. Did you ever play Rule of Rose?

No I haven’t, even playing Haunting Ground was a bit of a fluke since I got it as a gift. Like I said I’m not really into horrors. I think the only other horror game I can think of that I actually played was Phantasmagoria, but with that one I died a bit every time I played it. Only I will know (and I don’t) why I’ve always played that at night in a dark room. I mostly only glance at horrors.

And just to start this up again: at the end of the trailer the first thing the guy says is:::::::::::::::::

And why are they silent instead of alive with the sound of music?

Well they were, now they are more alive with the sound of screaming children. Sweet music…

Nah just the title bro, I think its just Kojima trying to be all artistic again by changing the name slightly.

This is the kind of game that I call the Mrs. into the room and say “Hey, come sit here, this will scare the crap out of you.”

When in reality, I’m the scared one and just need someone to sit through it with me.

Wasn’t scared in the least by PT and the minimalist gameplay bored me to death as did the repetition and lack of interactivity. I’m not really interested in these climactic moments as they’re not really a good indicator of a good horror game, for me at least. It’s the journey that should really terrify the player i.e. how they build up to these moments and especially the use of audio and, to be honest, PT failed horribly in those areas. Nothing was unnverving just prolonged.

I’m still waiting for any film or game to scare me. Open challenge to developers and film makers.
