Sleeping Dogs follow up Triad Wars is a PC only, online game

SleepingDogs

We’ve known for a while that United Front Games was busy on something called Triad Wars, which was based in the same universe the one of my favourite sandbox action games, Sleeping Dogs. Hell, we liked the idea of another game in the universe so much that we drafted up a wishlist of what we’d like to see in the game.

If you noticed the last thing on my list though, you’ll have seen this:

If Triad Wars ends up being a mobile, socially connected spin off, or even a multiplayer-centric game that bears little to no resemblance to the original game, I’m out – no matter how delicious the in-game pork buns look.

And of course whaddayaknow? It’s a PC only, online game. In a post announcing a future announcement, UFG community manager James Baldwin announced that the thing is a PC only online game, removing every bit of enthusiasm I had for the thing.

James here, Community Manager for the upcoming PC online game we’re making here at United Front Games, Triad Wars.

I wanted to let you know that we will be unveiling the game on Monday! We are extremely excited to finally show you what we have been working on so stay tuned to this space!

Expect more details about the game at 9PM tomorrow night, if I haven’t got my timezones all muddled.

We also have an AMA on reddit scheduled for 12 P.M. PST on Tuesday. Talk to you soon!

Of course, for those of you who hate having to play games with other people, you can always just play the soon-to-be-released Definitive version of the Sleeping Dogs, which is coming with all of the game’s DLC and a few graphical tweaks and enhancements.

Yeah saw it also over the weekend, seems real but I still dunno if it’s UFG trolling or what since with the 1st image that popped up last year and now this , it all looks like Wei?

I’m also disappointed that it’s a online game, I’m still confused that this is a dream they’ve wanted to do for a long time?

It kinda looks like one of those mafia management games you find on the net with the added bonus of actual gameplay though

Seems like such a low expectation dream…but hey, if its a dream of his, who are we to judge? Even if they’re turning an amazing game into an online-only turd 🙁

True, such a great game might be spoiled by this, but I think they already have a long term plan, why re-release the game on current gen if they plan to kill it with this? hopefully they’re building a true sequel as well.

Just hoping that the true reveal is much better than this, but what confuses me is the wording of “Online game” why not say MMO?

Think I’ll join in on the AMA on tuesday.

    And now I’m sad…

Was so looking forward to a new Sleeping Dogs game (or game based in the same universe). But PC online only? Like Geoff, I’m out! And sad…

DRM isn’t the problem. Its the fact that companies seem to think every game in the universe needs to be social and played online

I know this sounds silly but there is a difference between online to play for good reason and being online for no reason. Now if you are playing a single player game there is no real reason to demand an online connection, this is DRM and the reason why we all hate Ubisoft. If the game is a multiplayer game then it kind of makes since that it is online otherwise it will be a multiplayer of one which may be a little boring.

The frustration, however, is that someone somewhere thinks that all games need to be multiplyer to be successful and consequently all games that are multiplayer are good. Unfortunately this fellow is an idiot. But he is the idiot that green lights new games.

Let me guess… you can form Triads with your friends and compete against other Triads in 4 vs 4 gang wars online while having a great social experience linked to Facebook & Twitter. Just what everyone wanted for a Sleeping Dogs follow-up. I bet it’s F2P as well.

I only live in CT because the CIA impregnates organic tomatoes in other parts of the country with secret chemicals invented by KFC that make you receptive to brain control signals through the TV, primarily that lizard person, Dr Oz, who I understand is also a wizard.

I’m very very sad. I just started the game again last night – because I was a bid tired of everything else I had; and nothing leapt out at me from my library until I scrolled past Sleeping Dogs.

(And damn it is as fun as I remember. Graphical tweaks would be nice; but was the DLC enough to splurge money on?)

But now part 2 is online only. sigh … sob … sniff …

DLC isn’t worth it. A couple of meaningless cars, weapons & clothes & the story DLCs are dull as dishwater repetitive go to point X & beat up someone/something.
