Sony doesn’t force Trophy support

In an interview with Videogamer.com Gearbox Software president, Randy Pitchford, has revealed that Sony doesn’t force developers to use the newly implemented trophies.

Now I truly believe that Sony should change their stance on this one, we all know that Trophies are Sony’s answer to Achievements and one of the nice things about the achievements is that you always know that every game will give you something back.

In a similar manner the previous Xbox didn’t force all games to have Xbox Live support and in my opinion it most definitely held back the adoption of Live on that console, especially for the mass market.

I see no reason why Sony can’t dictate to all developers that every title must now include Trophy support. Especially the cross platform games that already have achievements built in.

I think the devs would be stupid not to include it. I think SSHD sales doubled when the trophy patch released. It’s a great way to boost sales.

Uncharted and WarHawk are the next games to release patches and i’m betting there will be a jump in sales.

AFAIK its not mandatory for now, future titles will be mandated to include trophies (2009 release games), maybe sony dont want to force devs that are finishing games to retro-fit trophy support before release…
