While Sony are yet to officially confirm a release date or price for the PlayStation 4 that hasn’t stopped the CFO of the worlds largest gaming retailer, Gamestop, stating that it will in fact be released this year.

According to SeekingAlpha the Chief Financial Officer, Robert A. Lloyd, stated the following during an investors call

“We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft’s final plans are”

He continues

“We have scenarios with one console introduction, as well as with two. Even a single launch in 2013 will drive double-digit console growth in 2014; and two launches, as noted above, would likely drive the console category north of 20% growth”

Seeing that Gamestop have business operations in Australia we can reasonably believe that if they are going to get it at the same time as America then so would we as we are also a PAL territory. Microsoft are biding their time but don’t be surprised if we hear their plans in the next few weeks.

In my opinion it’s very possible, they are not using rare exotic hardware this time… Should be much faster to manufacture, and they’ve probably already started stockpiling the components. I do believe they’ll attempt a global launch, but if they’ll meet demand in all regions is a different question…

It will be in interesting to see the overlap in the consoles, I mean, current gen is still going strong and we even have games that are supposedly releasing on ps4 and ps3 at the SAME time. so will be people be persuaded to buy the ps4 so early? time will tell, but Sony has to bring it hard with exclusives,PS4 exclusives that is, or else they are going to have a hard time trying to convince people to buy the ps4.

Except for PS4 specific exclusives, I expect games to still be developed for current gen, and then bumped to 1080p with some more draw distance and bettertextures… But not much more for some time to come. ..

Reason is simple, there’s WAY more money in current gen then in the next gen systems, and until they’ve sold many many millions, current gen will still get lots of love…

So no, buying a PS4 right away probably won’t have a huge benifit over staying with PS3 a bit longer… Still, I’ll buy mine on launch lol.

haha, It’s tempting hey. But as you said they will just bump it up, and that , well for me personally is not enough. That is why I’m hoping they bring it gay hard with the new content. they just need that one or two killer titles as no one will be looking at the share button or remote play as a deciding factor, it’s a game console so ultimately the games will make up people’s minds .

I would still wait. There are always bugs to be fixed and not enough quality games to justify the early adopter price which they set at the start.
