Sony's October announcement is GTAIV? – Rumour

Sony has said that they are going to be making a huge announcement in October about the PS3 but have not given any details so far.

However if you wander over to the official UK PS3 website and take a look at the games you will see that GTAIV has been given a release date of… October 2007.

Yes this could be a slip up, but then again what better way to make a huge splash in the Christmas period than by dropping the most anticipated game 4 months early.

The previous rumours were that the PS3 had delayed the release of GTA IV but could it be that Sony has pulled out a marketing stroke of genius… Keep your eyes peeled….

I am almost terrified to even comprehend this!!
This is potentially huge not just cos its my most anticipated game, but for the ps3 too!!

If that were true, and I were Microsoft…I’d be a little peeved, considering the $50M kickback 😛

$50 mil was for add-on episodes. Nothing to do with the original GTAIV game. I think Sony has to push for a 2007 hot title for the PS3 or else there is practically nothing to show for it.

I think the lower priced ps3 is definite for November , but not GTAIV . I think SCEE is just lazy at updating their websites and their PSN stores , and therefore never updated the info when the game got pushed to 2008.

I doubt it, I also think it’s the $399 40Gb, my understanding is that the $50million was also for Peter Moore to be able to announce that it would launch on the exact same day, that was the priority.

I also think the announcement will be The new SKU
Sony needs to deliver more consoles in order to show publishers to develop for their console.
I think that was the main reason for MGS4 an FF13 to anounce the exclusivity sony must have tole them they will introduce a new SKU of lower price which will make it worthwhile to keep the games exclusive.
More customer base the more worth it to develop a game for it.
they could bring out a big hit like GTA4 but people will still moan about the price of the PS3.
All in all they have plenty of strategy’s to go for. All about implementation an timing in this industry.
