2012 will be the 25th year that Capcom’s seminal fighting game will have been in existence. That’s a lot of hadoukens, shouryukens and tatsumaki….hurricane kicks. Capcom plans on celebrating, and has “big plans” in the works.

“For 25 years Street Fighter’s iconic hero has wandered the globe in search of the perfect battle, and to commemorate his quest – not to mention the millions of fans who’ve followed him every step of the way – we’re preparing some big plans for 2012,” the publisher on its blog, Capcom Unity.”The full details of this international celebration are still to come, but I can at least share the official logo that’ll emblazon all related products through the year,” they said.

Big plans? You know what that means? It’s time for HD rereleases of every single Street Fighter related anything, now with DLC to unlock colours! As a kid who spent far too much time and money in arcades playing Street Fighter – right from the first, admittedly horrible one, all this does is make me feel really, really old. Street Fighter, released in August 1987, featured just two playable characters; the now iconic Ryu and his palette-swopped red buddy Ken.

The next game to feature our favourite World Warriors is Street Fighter X Tekken, the first of Capcom’s new collaborations with Namco, which will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 in March, bringing the number of Street Fighter games  to somewhere in the region of about eleventy three billion.
