It’s been a good weekend for game announcements if you like having your ass kicked. Not only will we be getting a sequel to the infuriating but terribly rewarding Dark Souls, it seems we’ll be getting a new old-school Mega Man too.

As part of Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary celebration as well Mega Man’s impending  25th anniversary, Capcom will be releasing a crossover title that’ll see the blue-bomber face up against the World Warriors in an 8-bit Mega Man game, with Street Fighter characters as the main bosses. Yes, he’ll be able to inherit their powers. I’m actually pretty damned excited; I’ve been waiting for this game since the early 90’s.

Best of all? It’ll be free on the PC. The fan-made crossover, made by Seow Zong Hui has been given the all-clear by Capcom, which is unusual considering how much Capcom seems to hate their own IP and all of its fans.

“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,” said Christian Svensson, SVP of Capcom USA.

“This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”

It’ll be available for download from Capcom-Unity next week, for the price of nothing. It might not be an “official” game, but it’s something – especially considering Capcom’s axed the last handful of games featuring the sad little blue robot boy.
