Symphony of the Night record smashed as Summer Games Done Quick

The bi-annual Games Done Quick events have become standard viewing for me over the years, thanks to its mix of accessible, entertaining speedruns and the heart-warming good causes that benefit from the generosity of all its viewers. The Summer edition kicked off yesterday, meaning you can keep that Twitch tab open for the next seven days and be treated to some of the best runs for games anywhere from two decades ago to months old releases. And if the first day was any indicator, we’re in for a very special week.

The event started off with a rather great run for one of this year’s best games, NieR Automata. it’s one of the few new games being introduced to the event, with the rest of the day dominated by some of the classics. One of those included Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which saw a pretty unexpected record set during the opening hours of the show. Dr4gonBlitz might have already broken the record unofficially during his practice session, but it was a cool head that managed to mimic the run on stream, and claim a new world title.

The Any% (any percentage of completion), Glitchless (no massive game changing glitches) run broke the 33 minute mark only just, with Dr4gonBlitz securing a time of 32 minutes and 59 seconds. Funnily enough, he probably could’ve done it faster still. During the run Dr4gonBlitz slowed down to explain a few exploits and tricks he was using, and showcased alternative ones that he might’ve used too. All that brought his time down to make the stream more entertaining, but still didn’t botch his record time.

Games Done Quick isn’t exactly a meeting place for world records to be broken, instead aiming for a more educational set of speedruns that help guide viewers along with the action. Yet surprises like this do happen, and it’s still really early in the week. The run itself will be up on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel later this week, but don’t miss out on the rest of the event’s exciting titles to come.

Indeed. Sunday morning when the last run finishes up I usually just sleep the rest of the day away xD

I try to push to 2am every night unless something big is coming up, then I sleep with an alarm and wake up for the run.
