Suprise dashboard update – What happened?

Straight from Major Nelson’s site…

Moments ago, the team released a system update (aka Dash update) to Xbox Live. Over the next few hours, when you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. What’s in this update? The only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the wireless guitars that are being released in a few months.
No new features beyond this wireless support are included in this update.

There is no way that Microsoft released a dashboard update to handle wireless guitars. It would have been much more logical to install that patch when someone inserted the game disc.

So what has Microsoft done? There are rumours starting that the game name is no longer shown when the disc is in the tray but I would guess that is a bug not a planned feature 🙂

My guess is they have just uploaded a new list of security checks to look for chipped consoles, lets see if everyone starts complaining soon about being banned from Live…

Have you noticed anything new yet?

hmmm…well, at least it’s not like sony, where by every 3 weeks there’s a new update @ 110MB’s, and with our shitty adsl, It takes for ever to download, I wish we had ADSL 2+ which hits a max of 23mb/s! link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_Digital_Subscriber_Line
if you want proof… shit, Imagine games on that connection! I mean, you could be playing @ lan speeds 🙂
