Team Dignitas signs all female CS:GO roster

While the ongoing discussion about female representation in esports is never ending, there are organizations who are making a push include female rosters within their teams. Team Dignitas, a well known brand throughout the esports world, has just picked up their first all female roster, and they’re all familiar faces.

Team Karma, the all female team which once featured South Africa’s Sharon “ShazZ” Waison, went through a number of changes but had always existed as one of the top female CS:GO teams in the world. I in fact had the pleasure of meeting the team back in Copenhagen last year and followed their progress throughout the tournament. One of their biggest struggles, as a team, was financing an independent organization, which is no longer an issue. Prior to joining Dignitas, the team joined Selfless, but now they’re going to compete under the brand which owned by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The team will make their debut at IEM Katowice, but the most interesting part of the story was Dignitas CEO Jonathan Kemp’s response to picking up the team, saying that they weren’t looking for a female team, instead they were looking for talented individuals.

“Naturally, we support the growth of female gamers in the industry, but chiefly saw this as an opportunity to bring premier talent into our Team Dignitas family,”

That’s an extremely refreshing outlook to have, and it’s true that this team is extremely talented. They placed second last year at ESWC Paris, and won Copenhagen Games in 2015. They’re the first all female team to be signed to Dignitas, and are definitely an asset to the organization.

5 days a week… 5-6 hours everyday. That’s basically normal working hours and in the beginning they weren’t being funded. Balancing work and esports must’ve been hard before getting signed, well unless they were being funded by their parents.
