The TEK Tier update for ARK: Survival Evolved is out today

Way back in November, Studio Wildcard teased their next significant update for their dinosaur riding simulator, ARK: Survival Evolved. The TEK Tier update as they called it, would bring a whole lot of new content to the game, including futuristic gear that would essentially let players turn themselves into a Power Ranger/Master Chief/Iron Man. Here’s a quick recap of what they have planned in case you’ve forgotten:

“The TEK Tier will put players in power armor granting them advanced abilities, and add powerful TEK saddles with mounted energy weapons to the capabilities of some favorite dinos. Want to snipe at enemy tribes with a plasma rifle while tearing across the map with a jet pack? How about living under the ocean in a vacuum sealed Underwater Base, fully protected from the hazards of land and sky?”

All Studio Wildcard left players with at the time was a vague release date of early 2017. They’re keeping to their word though it seems, because according to Gamespot, the TEK Tier update will be out today (for PC), on January the 30th. I’m not sure what time exactly the patch will drop, but if you’ve been looking forward to it, take comfort in the fact that it may be out already by the time you read this, or it will be in the next couple of hours.

This news brings with it another interesting tidbit of information. According to Jesse Rapczak, ARK’s Creative Director, The TEK Tier update is “the patch to kick off the final stretch.” Holy hell, it looks like Survival Evolved may in fact launch this year, after being an Early Access title for what feels like forever now.

Maybe that’ll be the perfect time for me to hop in, when everything has been optimised, and bugs (most at least) ironed out. What about you? Are you already an avid ARK: Survival Evolved fan? Are you excited to get your hands on the TEK TIer update?

Defence of the Ancients? More like Defence of the cabbages! Have you seen my head? I look like a Merino Sheep on pole. NO SHANGE only SHAPPIES! :D

  • Banana Jim’s Final Form!

The first thing I thought about when I saw that t-rex with the helmet is… DINO RIDERS!!!!!

  • Meh. The game is less than optimized and I am still mad at them for their DLC thing.

    • Hammersteyn

Is it still in Early Access?

      • PurplePariah

Have you read the article? O_0

        • Hammersteyn

          Obviously not XD

      • Yes.

        • Hammersteyn

I went and read the article like a good boy 😛
How on earth can they justify DLC for a game in Early Access???????

          • Actually they justified it by saying that the DLC was ready and holding it back for release would have been a disservice to fans.

Our reply however was that how could they justify diverting resources paid to finish the game away from finishing the game??!!

          • Hammersteyn

Good! I mean they’re even selling the game on consoles. If that doesn’t mean the game is finished I dunno what is

  • PurplePariah

Rad. Just in time for Conan Exiles to release so that nobody cares about this. Perfect timing. Just like their DLC.

    • The first early access indie survival game of the year. I hope it’s good.

      • PurplePariah

Well I’ve been watching it on Twitch. Reminds me of Ark in almost every way. Except 2.
        1) No clothes means totally nude bodies. Yeah. No underwear as a base.
        2) No dinosaurs.

Otherwise it looks and feels almost exactly like Ark. Which is either a good or a bad thing. I just hope it’s not as punishing as Ark. I got so frustrated with Ark, restarting 5 times in an hour because a dinosaur sneezed in your general direction, while you’re just trying to gather enough to build a fucking camp fire.

        • Yea I was watching Cohh stream it last night as well. Still loads of bugs and polish needed. But the concept is good and has all the corner stones a survival game needs. Also they need to fix that horrible voice over ip xD

          • PurplePariah

Lol yeah that VOIP. So bad. At least Discord is a thing with friends. Was odd listening to 12 year olds talk to streamers and streamers trolling back. So odd.

Still, I’m not going to get it – not my thing. I have The Forest to play with my gf, and that’s plenty for my survival needs.

          • Indeed. I am also hanging back for a while before buying this. Right now my focus is on Guild Wars 2.

          • PurplePariah

Ah GW2. Been a couple years since i Played that. Still as boring into late game as before?

          • Only started max level last night and have the whole Hearth of Thorns expack ahead of me.

          • PurplePariah

Oh shit then you have a lot of time still to go before you get to the bored stage. Enjoy 🙂

          • lol

I will be taking it slowly.

          • PurplePariah

It has a lot more content than Warframe, so there’s that to look forward to 🙂

  • PurplePariah

Also PSA: Ark is currently 67% discounted on Steam if anyone is so inclined.

  • Sageville

    DINO-RIDERS ACTIVATE!

  • Captain JJ

Don’t care. ARK was dead the moment they put paid content on an unfinished game.
