The TEK Tier update for ARK: Survival Evolved is out today

Way back in November, Studio Wildcard teased their next significant update for their dinosaur riding simulator, ARK: Survival Evolved. The TEK Tier update as they called it, would bring a whole lot of new content to the game, including futuristic gear that would essentially let players turn themselves into a Power Ranger/Master Chief/Iron Man. Here’s a quick recap of what they have planned in case you’ve forgotten:

“The TEK Tier will put players in power armor granting them advanced abilities, and add powerful TEK saddles with mounted energy weapons to the capabilities of some favorite dinos. Want to snipe at enemy tribes with a plasma rifle while tearing across the map with a jet pack? How about living under the ocean in a vacuum sealed Underwater Base, fully protected from the hazards of land and sky?”

All Studio Wildcard left players with at the time was a vague release date of early 2017. They’re keeping to their word though it seems, because according to Gamespot, the TEK Tier update will be out today (for PC), on January the 30th. I’m not sure what time exactly the patch will drop, but if you’ve been looking forward to it, take comfort in the fact that it may be out already by the time you read this, or it will be in the next couple of hours.

This news brings with it another interesting tidbit of information. According to Jesse Rapczak, ARK’s Creative Director, The TEK Tier update is “the patch to kick off the final stretch.” Holy hell, it looks like Survival Evolved may in fact launch this year, after being an Early Access title for what feels like forever now.

Maybe that’ll be the perfect time for me to hop in, when everything has been optimised, and bugs (most at least) ironed out. What about you? Are you already an avid ARK: Survival Evolved fan? Are you excited to get your hands on the TEK TIer update?
