Valentines

Today is valentines day, the day of love and the day you can show your partner how much they mean to you. A lot of people love complaining how today is over commercialised but to be honest I think it’s a nice break in an otherwise very busy life.

I try to remind my wife all the time that she’s the most important part in my life but I’m not perfect and do forget and that’s why I like this day as it’s a day that you can’t forget or ignore. Also it’s a leap year so it’s her job today so if you’re the guy today then you can sit back and enjoy. I’m entirely not sure what happens with lesbians and gays today… anyone know?

Anyway since it’s her turn to treat you how about you gently dropping the fact that you’d rather play games tonight than head out to overcrowded restaurants and here is the perfect list of 5 games that you can play together that shouldn’t cause any arguments.

1. Portal 2

While portal and portal 2 both have insanely great single player campaigns the second in the series also has a fantastic co-op mode where you both take hold of a cute robot and head out to solve puzzles together. As a couple.. see the link?

Anyway the game itself is great and if you haven’t completed it yet you should and as long as you avoid calling (or being called) a moron for not getting the puzzle you should be safe to go.

2. LittleBigPlanet 1 or 2

When it comes to cute sackboys it really doesn’t matter which version of this game you load up. As in Portal 2 it’s a fantastic co-op game with some decent puzzles in it but this game gets the nod as much for it’s cuteness level as it does for being an excellent platforming title

CastleCrashers

3. Castle Crashers

If Portal 2 and LittleBigPlanet are a little too cute for you and you’d like a little more violence in your gaming experience then Castle Crashers could be just up your alley.

It’s still a cute looking game but once the action starts you’ll find yourself lopping off limbs, destroying enemies and saving your loved one as he/she gets surrounded and you can jump in and save the day.

4. Left 4 Dead (1 or 2)

Stop with the cutesy stuff and give me gore I hear you say, well then what you want to do is crack open a copy of Left 4 Dead with it’s ultra gory zombiefest mayhem co-op action.

If you’re partner doesn’t love you even more for saving their ass from hordes of sprinting zombies then I’m afraid there is something wrong with them.

Left 4 Dead has some of the best co-op action on the planet.

5. Mortal Kombat (or any co-op fighting game)

Fighting brings out the animal nature in all of us and fighting as a team against the obvious bad guys brings out the hero nature as well which is sure to end well for you as long as you don’t blame your partner for any losses.

Fighting games are also great for non-gamers as they can button mash their way through virtually any stages as long as you are there to mop up the remaining stragglers.

And that brings us to the end of our valentines day co-op gaming special, some of the games that were in the list and didn’t quite break into the top 5 are Borderlands, Call of Duty (spec ops), Halo, Gears of War and any MMO that you can think of.

Do you agree with our list or is their a perfect game out there that we just haven’t mentioned?

Also do you hate Valentines day like our in house grouch Geoff or are you a bit of a love struck softie when this day rolls around?

Let us know in the comments and you could win our eternal gratitude.. no seriously that’s all we’re giving away in this article.
