The Exclusive Arms Race: November 2007 Update

Gamingtarget.com runs a regular editorial on the exclusive arms race between the major consoles. This is the November 2007 Update.

As you can see from the graph above, the Wii is easily the leader followed by the 360 with the PS3 trailing quite far behind.

However sheer numbers don’t tell the entire story. Quality is also very important and when we count the number of exclusives that have a score of over 80 according to Metacritic we get the following.

Wii – 7
360 – 18
PS3 – 5

So the 360 is the clear winner with the PS3 then having a better ratio of good titles and the Wii having the pure numbers.

The full rules and details follow through the link.

It’s worth noting that the PS3 and Xbox 360 have a nearly equal amount of upcoming exclusives – so many of the 360’s ‘exclusives’ are actually a product of the console coming to market first. So much for GamingTarget’s biased “the PS3 is the doomed analysis.”

Also, the list of 360 exclusives looks far less impressive when one takes into consideration just how many of them are available on the PC.

Im a little confused, what exactly does that bar graph represent? Im guessing Software sales?
Cos if its hardware, then I can believe it, unless they are counting from launch?

It’s how many exclusives each system has.

@Abev, The graph represents how many exculsives each console has. It has nothing to do with sales

@Bob, I agree with the upcoming releases but I don’t have a gaming PC anymore so they really are exclusives for me 😀

    Ah now I see.
Personally I dont get the whole exclusives whoo hah.
Sure its great to have a whole selection of exclusives on your console, but how many people out there can afford five games a month? Let alone 10?

“Number of exclusives which have a score of over 80 according to Metacritic…”

Well Metacritic include Gamespot reviews so we can throw that out completely.

The Wii had a game that scored 14 on metacritic. How on earth is that possible – I mean Wii play which is a wiimote with a complimentary coaster as far as I am concerned got 58 !!!
