Yesterday Valve revealed the invites for the first of the Major Series taking place in Frankfurt, Germany next month. The major, creatively named “The Frankfurt Major” is the first of Valve’s Dota 2 major series which will see four a year, ending in the Dota 2 International. The tournament kicks off on November 16th, with the qualifiers beginning on October 10th.

The Invites

Sticking with the same format, Valve have invited the top eight teams in the world to attend the event, with regional qualifiers being held to decided who will fill the final few spots.

Strangely enough, this will be one of the first Valve sanctioned Majors where a Southeast Asian team hasn’t been invited. China holds the top spot with four invited teams, and Europe close second with three. After their victory at ESL One New York, Vega Squadron will be the team to beat come the next Major while Evil Geniuses still have a thing or two to prove after picking up Arteezy not too long ago.

The Qualifiers

Each region will host 10 teams, where the top two will receive entry into the Major. The qualifier regions are as follows: Americas, Southeast Asia, China and Europe. Each region will have open qualifiers, which will allow teams who haven’t been invited to the qualifiers, to qualify for the qualifiers… make sense? These begin today.
