Dead Island is a game, that despite being riddled with a few bugs and glitches, that I enjoyed, because it was a step in the right direction. It wasn’t game of the year material, but it was pretty solid overall, and a blast to play with friends. It’s developer, Techland, is moving on though, as they’ve dedicated a second team to start work on a new game, codenamed: Project Hell.
According to a debut blog post, Project Hell came about from a weapons mod that a Techland teamster built for Dead Island, and that it will be a “FPP hack and slash game in a dark fantasy setting”. “We won’t be asking for your money on Kickstarter,” designer and project manager Marcin Kruczkiewicz said.
Our main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don’t expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight. To achieve that we’ll use our experience already gained in game development and enhanced technology from Dead Island.
It’s still early days right now, with no release date or platform information available yet. There’s some concept art, that you can see below, but if Project Hell manages to make sword and sorcery as fun as Dead Island is in co-op, then I’m all too eager to give this title a go.
