The PS3 is catching the Xbox 360

When we look at worldwide consoles sales nothing comes remotely close to the Nintendo Wii and even the most ardent PS3 and Xbox 360 have now accepted sales defeat to the white box from Nintendo.

However there is a intense battle on going between the Xbox 360 and PS3 and the PS3 is now rumoured to be within 5% of the Xbox 360’s figures even though it was released a year later.

Currently this year the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by 10% and with some killer titles in the near future the PS3 could well make up some extra ground before the end of the year.

However this is all just the opinion of analysts who are happy to admit that they are struggling to understand the strength of the Xbox 360’s sales this year.

The Xbox 360 is now in it’s 6th year and if the year ends as solidly as it started this will be the second best year it has ever experienced, coming after it’s best year last year.

However it’s continued weakness in Japan and slower sales growth in Europe and the rest of the world will eventually catch up to it and more than likely see the PS3 stealing second place before the generation is out.

When this generation started people were worried that one of the 3 consoles would fail miserably and exit the gaming arena, thankfully that just hasn’t happened at all.
