Remember back in the early days of the PS3 the virtues of the Blu-Ray drive were brought up over and over –  and the biggest troll point online was that you now don’t need to get up and change discs? Well that may soon be over.

It has come to light, thanks to a leaked PS4 cover of Call of Duty: Ghosts that the game is going to require a 49Gb install which is only 1Gb smaller than the discs capacity.

Now I’m a fan of the Call of Duty series but let’s be serious for a minute here. There is no way that Call of Duty: Ghosts should be taking more room on a disc than Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto V.

ps4cover

So what is actually going on here?

Does the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts really have such incredible graphics that it’s so much larger than previous generation games or are we looking at a problem with how the next gen console handle compression?

My biggest worry right now is that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are only releasing with a 500Gb Hard drive, and we need to install games on both before we can play them. So are we left with a maximum of 10 games that can be installed at any one time on the consoles?

I’m intrigued to see what the minimum install on the Xbox One is. It will be a serious sticking point if one console can handle smaller installs than the other.

Oh and make sure to vote on  whether you think Battlefield 4 or Call of Duty: Ghosts

Was gonna say something funny about the engine needing all that space cause the code is not optimized but then I remembered it is CoD and no one really cares. 😛

Didn’t you hear? There is planned DLC which will take you on an emotional journey with the CoD dog. It’ll be an “Origin” type of short, supported by cinematic quality like consoles have never seen before (but PC gamers will just go “meh”).

Incidentally, the dog will be voiced by actor Morgan Freeman. This takes up 10GB alone.

Lending myself to the CoD franchise was clearly the only logical move left. Let’s be honest. I’m not getting any younger. And DoG is going to be an integral part of the growing CoD franchise in the future. It seemed fair that an actor of my calibre was given the lead role.”

I know it comes down to ones needs, but seriously… Hardware spec the phone is quite a beast (iphone 5s), but if you look at the SGS4, Xperia Z1, Note 3. It just isnt that great. Also if you compare prices the iphone 5S is overpriced for what it has. At this moment in time Samsung’s Note 3 is top. Until the next gen phones comes out of course.

BF3 needed a 3gig texture install. Lets wait and see what BF4 has up its sleeve.

MGS5 will need 5 blue rays just for for the music. 😛

I doubt there would be a texture install for BF4 on next gen… current gen I am sure they will, prob still look crappy though..

An then another 5 for the long cut scenes, if MGS4 is anything to go by.

I see that the games will be getting bigger and bigger installs up to a point where you would need to upgrade to a bigger drive. And then you can’t just go out and buy a generic one, but a certified PS4 one. They still need to make money after they sold a ton of the consoles. Thats the same reason MS opted for batteries for their Xbone controllers, to sell certified battery backs

First of all where you get your facts? Not all games have to be installed on ps4, i think thats only on the x1 whether digital or physical. And then again nobody has stated that they all require a 50 gb install. Also ps4 hd can be upgraded (xbox cant i believe) up to 1.5 tb.

I’m installing a bigger hard drive day one. Was hoping to squeeze in 2TB but PS4 does not support 15mm drives. So 1 or 1.5TB it will have to be.

The other worrying thing is if the games are going to be so big (never mind all the other online features, updates etc), digital downloads will be a huge problem. Hopefully ISP’s and Telkom wont pull a Mweb throttling nonsense tactic on all of us…

Well, system requirements for PC are pretty similar:

    OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66GHz / AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHz or better

    Memory: 6GB RAM

    Hard Disk Space: 40GB

Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 / ATI Radeon HD 5870 or better

Sound: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card

Internet: Broadband Internet connection for Steam and Online Multiplayer

Mandatory 64-Bit OS, 6GB RAM and 40GB of hard drive space. Good luck to all those who pre-ordered digital versions…

The PS4 version is also confirmed to be 1080p at 60fps, whereas all sorts of confusion rages over the resolution of the xbone version. Apparently, Penello just broke the news that he definitely doesn’t know, and it’s well-above his pay grade…. I mean honestly now, that just makes me think the 720p rumors are spoton.

Ryse has been dropped to 900p
Xbox one has a massive hardware deficit
Some saying as much as 40% behind PS4 but more likely only 30%
Micro$oft has already admitted to having to over clock the xbox one before it even launchs
IF you think the xbox 360 had over heating issues just imagine how a under powered console being over clocked in a feeble attempt to keep up with PS4 is gonna burn out.

Or maybe microsoft are gonna use the RROD to boost sales figures again.

The minimum install on the One is the entire game. With both consoles, discs are only used for authentication once they deliver their payload to the hard drive. Both will start the game after a small amount is copied and install the rest in the background.

Wow! That’s gonna be a big one. Already have my PS4 ordered, and gonna get a custom controller from http://www.thecontrollershop.com when they’re available. Now I’m wishing it came with more than 500GB of space. Anyone remember when 500GB was more space then you’d ever use?
