With Destiny 2 done and dusted, I can finally cast my attention onto that other passion of mine: Covering ABBA songs Pokémon! The last time that Nintendo produced a direct sequel to its pocket monster franchise was way back in 2012 when they rolled out new adventures in the Unova region, dubbed Pokémon Black 2 and White 2.

It was alright. As usual, the formula wasn’t massively updated and the focus was on developing a more nuanced story between the players and their Pokemon. This year, Nintendo returns to those sequel roots again for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. You’re back again in the Alola region, catching ‘mons and traversing the Island Trial gauntlet to prove yourself the local champ.

What else has changed then? For starters (heh), players can now ride a wormhole using Solgaleo or Lunala into the world of Ultra Beasts, where humanity has setup a base called Ultra Megalopolis that Nintendo calls “a world that has had its light stolen by Necrozma”. The Ultra Recon Squad is on patrol here, a team of four trainers that players will of course cross paths with. Of course.

The biggest catch though, is the addition of new Ultra Beasts to find and add to your collection. In addition the previously revealed UB-Burst and UB-Assembly, there’s is also the Poison-Type UB-Adhesive. Here’s a quick breakdown on these fellas direct from Nintendo:

UB Adhesive

Pokemon US UM (1)

Type: Poison

This Ultra Beast’s head is filled with venom and it shoots this venom out from the poisonous needle on the top of its head. It is said to be intelligent enough to understand human speech and displays many emotions.

UB Burst

Pokemon US UM (2)

Type: Fire/Ghost

UB Burst has a head made up of a collection of curious sparks, which it can remove and make explode. It tricks targets into letting their guard down with its funny behavior then, when its opponent is close, it surprises them by blowing up its head without warning.

UB Assembly

Pokemon US UM (3)

Type: Rock/Steel

This Ultra Beast is a collection of many life-forms. While it appears to be made up of stones stacked atop one another, each “stone” is in fact a separate life-form. When confronting opponents, the eyes on each of its stones begin to glow bright red.

UB Burst will be an Ultra Moon exclusive, while UB Assembly will be exclusive to Ultra Sun when the games launch on November 17. UB40 will be available to all players, because Pokemon goes best with red red wiiiiiiine.

  1. So, we have a superglue bottle, a Lego brick and.. what is that? Some sort of Disco lollipop?

I love Pokemon, and sun/moon was great but maybe it is time to lay off the ‘rare candies’ and stop with the LSD inspired Pokemon for a bit?
