Uncharted 4 will include day one multiplayer microtransactions

Uncharted

Like every other game on the market today that costs many pretty pennies on launch, Uncharted 4 is going to be packing some micro-transactions when it hits the shelves next year March.

Naughty Dog’s platforming adventure will once again be a game with a multiplayer component, although Naughty Dog is looking to create a balance of sorts between the use of an in-game currency and actual real world coin.

“Microtransactions will be available at launch, but we’ll have no gameplay items that will be gated through microtransactions,” lead multiplayer designer Robert Cogburn said to GameSpot.

Players will make use of mystic totem power-ups to provide new abilities in the multiplayer matches, as well as sidekicks such as medics and snipers which can be summoned into battle. Before a match begins, there’ll also be an option to select a load-out.

When it comes to visuals, Uncharted 4’s multiplayer mode won’t be shooting for a straight-up 1080p experience. Instead, the action will unfold at 900p so that a smooth frame-rate can be maintained during rounds.

Cogburn also mentioned that Uncharted 4 will “most likely be Naughty Dog’s last game in the series,”. Probably.  As he said to GameSpot:

We as a studio feel that this will probably be the last Uncharted game we do. Who knows?

I’m not exactly the biggest Uncharted fan around, but there’s no denying the impact that the series has had on the gaming landscape. What started out as an Indiana Jones homage featuring a janky-running hunchback lead character has blossomed into a cinematic action set-piece featuring a janky-running hunchback lead character.

Not bad for a series that has only been around for less than a decade.

Video game characters will look more and more like this, because it’s okay to charge extra for cosmetics

So, from the REAL TIME E3 reveal at 60FPS/1080P in game footage, to the “we cant hit 60fps”, to the 30fps 20 minute demo, to the U4 Preview that was U2, to more focus on multiplayer and now micro transactions.

Whats next? 720p day 1 17gig patch $120 season pass?

Ill wait for the PSV remaster at 120fps.

Tell me about it. The 60fps was the main selling point. I’m not worried about the resolution taking a hit. But for a linear game (not open world game like MGSV) with set pieces and and awesome Gears of War whack a moll shooting like in Uncharted 1-3. I would expect the flagship title on the mother ship, to have 60fps.

How hard is it to hit 60fps? and how expensive is it? how much RAM does it use? I want to see more on that subject because by the looks of things it will be 15 years before the consoles catch up to PCs.

My guess is the Dev tools arent up to scratch quite yet to achieve those goals IMO… Optimization is word of the day for the time being…

Honestly dude I really can not see a difference with 30fps and 60fps like Uncharted remaster is 60fps and it makes no difference whatsoever! Game even feels sluggish at most times the shooting is waay better in Tomb Raider which is running 30fps!

The only reason why I brought the Uncharted trilogy is because of the rave reviews from Uncharted fans who played it on the PS3, they were basically saying that it is a totally new dynamic and different feel, like TLOU was.

What TV are you using? because its like night and day to me. I have a 52 inch.

I played TLOU on both PS3 and PS4 and to be honest same thing, graphically game did look better but that’s because a big jump in resolution but when it came to game play not much difference!

I got a 52 inch as well Samsung 3D smart TV. I play Destiny a LOT and it’s 30fps but it is the smoothest shooting game I have ever played. I don’t know maybe it’s just me.

There is a scene in The Witcher 3, Brookback BOG I think its called, the original game before the patch drops to 20fps in that section. After the patch it now runs at 30fps. The fans are over the moon because just 10fps made all the difference.

I wonder if the framerate in Destiny is locked at 30. Thats probably why it feels smooth.

            October 28, 2015 at 13:07

Ok I have experienced that in Witcher 3 when the framerate drops for sure I agree it’s kak I see what you mean now.

I think that’s when the difference comes in I think when the fps is locked you don’t feel the difference think you right!

I can see the difference. Stop playing on your 1998 tube television man!

The Game Industry is successfully doing what the music Industry could not do. Publishers are very much the same as record labels. The advent of online music distribution gave modern musicians more control of their own IP and brand. This served to mitigate instances where dodgy label mangers ended up owning the rights to artists work. Look up Black Sabbath to see a prime example of this nefarious practice.

Game Publishers are milking developers for all they are worth. Micro-transactions are a extension of this process. I doubt all developers endorse this. But I think they are obligated into it through the very nature of the industry. Once a publisher is done with a developer, You often see them shut their doors. Publisher owns IP and hands it to a new studio. Rinse and repeat. COD being a practical example. The folks that created the original Call of Duty games have nothing to do with it anymore.

Online distribution serves to be the salvation for the future. Indie games are blazing the way for a new business model which allows some semblance of autonomy from the Game Publisher Juggernaut. Resistance is futile. One day the Publisher model will go the way of the dodo.
