Unreal Tournament III for PS3 Ships on 10 December

Epic and Midway have nearly confirmed a release date for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III.

According to Gamingbits.com the ship date was announced for the 10th of December and then quickly updated to the 11th with the added warning off

Unreal Tournament III doesn’t have a strict street date, so like some of the other recently released PS3 games, it will be sold by retailers as it is received. Midway also confirmed that there won’t be a Playstation 3 collector’s edition.

What do you mean it doesn’t have a strict street date. That’s one of the dumbest things I have heard off, this is a highly anticipated title and we want to be able to attend a midnight launch…

We can’t do that without a strict release date.

It is also rumoured that we won’t get our copies until next year due to some certification issues on the PAL versions. I have asked SK to confirm though.

[Update] our official release date is Q1 2008. Obviously I will post when they narrow that down some more.

FYI, Gears of War on the 360 didn’t have a strict streetdate either. I’ll try find the article to support this statement. It seems to be that Epic is of the belief that a game should be released as it’s available and, to be honest, that is quite refreshing 🙂 .

@Pillsbury, serious…. I wasn’t paying that much attention around that time but wasn’t emergence day a worldwide thing?

@ Lazy, nope. November 9th and 16th were the official date, however, Cliffy said that some retailers would receive their shipments earlier than others and Epic wasn’t going to stop them from selling the games if so they chose. So yes, it was a global thing, but Epic is very relaxed about street dates, so much so that they don’t believe in street dates being ‘broken’, so to speak.
